Typically weed is more psychologically addictive rather than physically. check out the following info:

Long-term marijuana use can lead to addiction for some people; that is, they use the drug compulsively even though it often interferes with family, school, work, and recreational activities. According to the 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), an estimated 21.6 million Americans aged 12 or older were classified with substance dependence or abuse (9.1 percent of the total population). Of the estimated 6.9 million Americans classified with dependence on or abuse of illicit drugs, 4.2 million were dependent on or abused marijuana.57 In 2002, 15 percent of people entering drug abuse treatment programs reported that marijuana was their primary drug of abuse.58

Along with craving, withdrawal symptoms can make it hard for long-term marijuana smokers to stop using the drug.49 People trying to quit report irritability, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety.59,60 They also display increased aggression on psychological tests, peaking approximately 1 week after they last used the drug.61

In addition to its addictive liability, research indicates that early exposure to marijuana can increase the likelihood of a lifetime of subsequent drug problems. A recent study of over 300 fraternal and identical twin pairs, who differed on whether or not they used marijuana before the age of 17, found that those who had used marijuana early had elevated rates of other drug use and drug problems later on, compared with their twins, who did not use marijuana before age 17. This study re-emphasizes the importance of primary prevention by showing that early drug initiation is associated with increased risk of later drug problems, and it provides more evidence for why preventing marijuana experimentation during adolescence could have an impact on preventing addiction.62

Weed is psycholoically addictive. Psychological addictions are a dependency of the mind, and lead to psychological withdrawal symptoms. Addictions can theoretically form for any rewarding behavior, or as a habitual means to avoid undesired activity, but typically they only do so to a clinical level in individuals who have emotional, social, or psychological dysfunctions, taking the place of normal positive stimuli not otherwise attained.

Psychological addiction, as opposed to physiological addiction, is a person's need to use a drug or engage in a behavior dispite the harm caused out of desire for the effects it produces, rather than to relieve withdrawal symptoms. Instead of an actual physiological dependence on a drug, such as heroin, psychological addiction usually develops out of habits that relieve symptoms of loneliness or anxiety. As the drug is indulged, it becomes associated with the release of pleasure-inducing endorphins, and a cycle is started that is similar to physiological addiction. This cycle is often very difficult to break.

It is also considered possible to be both psychologically and physically addicted at the same time. Some doctors make little distinction between the two types of addiction, for the result -- substance abuse -- is the same. However, the cause of the addiction in either case is quite different, as is the type of treatment preferred.

Psychological addiction does not have to be limited only to substances; even various activities and behavioral patterns may be considered addictions if they are harmful, e.g. gambling, Internet use, usage of computers, sex/pornography, eating, self-harm or work. A wikipediholic behavior is another example of psychological addiction.

Yes. Anything that has any mind altering chemical properties in this case THC, can have different effects on different people. Is sex addictive? Is alcohol? Anything can be addictive, it's whether you're are strong enough in mind to quit once you start. I smoked cigarettes for seven years, which experts (whoever that is) claim is likened to heroin. I quit smoking, no problem cold turkey...because I WANTED to. Cannabis is much more addictive, as it has more benefits/side effects than cigarettes. Best advice, if you don't have cancer or glaucoma, and it's not medically prescribed...don't do it. It was a lot harder for me to quit smoking jane, I went through serious withdrawals...emotional, mental, and just the plain old habit of doing it...So again, YES, it is most definitely addictive!!!

Lol no, it doesn't have an addictive substance in it but it is like alchohol as far as being addictive. Someone can start to rely on it and supresss their problems therefore having the same affect as being addictive. You dont have cravings or anything like that.

Omg. most of these people don't know what they are talking bout because weed doesn't have ANY chemicals in it! It is all natural. Just b/c it is a drug doesn't mean its addictive, just means it harms your body in one form or another. It is the high you get from smoking it that people get addicted to. Its a mental thing not a physical thing.

Are you 12? Honestly. I have to say this daintily. There are things that you are expected to do betwen 14-18 just to have a normal life, and one of them is smoking pot. I don't care what the statistics say, everyone smokes pot between 14-18. Everyone is also expected to get drunk, get into a fierce fight, get their first boyfriend(girlfirend), and lose their virginity. Growiing up is a totally s hitty experience because no one will tell you the truth. The truth is, it sucks, it's the worst tie of your life. Not the best. High School is the worst. And for some reason everyone is also going to tell you what to do. To hell with them. Smoke pot, drink and have sex. It's part of the growing process. That's the truth.

Marijuana has not been proven to be physically addicting, and no physical withdrawal symptoms occur when its use is discontinued, psychological dependence does develop. Users describe two phases of marijuana intoxication: initial stimulation, giddiness, and euphoria, followed by sedation and pleasant tranquility. Mood Changes are often accompanied by altered perceptions of time and space and of one's bodily dimensions. Thinking process becomes disrupted by fragmentary ideas and memories. Users report increased appetite, heightened sensory awareness, and pleasure. Negative effects can include confusion, acute panic reactions, anxiety attacks, fear, a sense of helplessness, and loss of self control.
Chronic marijuana users are said to develope an "amotivational syndrome" characterized by passivity, decreased motivation, and preoccupation with drug taking. Relationship to this syndrome to marijuana use, however, has not been established.
Like alcohol intoxication, marijuana intoxication impairs reading comprehension, memory, speech, problem-solving ability, and reaction time. Effects on the intellect of long term use are unknown. Consistant evidence that marijuana induces or causes brain damage does not exist. Medical research has indicated that the drug is effective in relieving some of the symptoms of glaucoma and in treating the nusea induced by cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Some people say it is, and others say it isn't. It's a bit of a debate.

Weed is not addicting.

The feeling of not having to deal with the real world and your problems is what is addicting. The escape from reality is the addiction.

If you think you are addicted to or becoming addicted to weed then that means you are depressed and should not be smoking it. Depression and weed will give the illusion of addiction, always smoking, even anger can start to show up.

I think weed shoul be legal in America. I have been to the Netherlands to visit my family. Amsterdam has legal marijuana. I think it should be legal at least for the people with Cancer to help relieve the pain. I don't think it is addictive unless you have an addictive personality. You can get addicted to any thing if you let your self.
