The theme of my church's vacation bible school this year is God's family and the reunion with him in heaven. We are looking for craft ideas that focus on the theme and are interesting and fun for the children. The neighborhood is in the inner city and alot of the children that come are not used to coming to church. They come to have something different to do. As part of our youth ministry I am looking for ideas that will reach the children but not bore them.
We are also looking for ideas on crafts for boys. It is easy to find crafts for girls but we need something that will minister to the needs of boys particularly ages7 and up. Please share your thoughts.

Well boys like bugs and worms. Compost buckets.....empty coffee cans filled with soil and let the boys find worms. Then you can talk about how God created these things and we have been put here to be the stewards of the land, etc.
A lot of boys also like trading cards like Yu-Gi-OH etc etc. Make up some sheets of Biblical trading cards to color. Then they can trade them through out the next couple of days.
You should also do a Family reunion picnic. Take pictures of the kids with their new friends and future members of God's family.
Make scrapbooks, but you will have to call them something else as boys "don't scrapbook"

My friend's son, age 7, was really excited about helping out with a scrapbook for his class. Maybe they could make a Bible/Heaven scrapbook, and include drawings or pictures of their family.

why not do a banquet theme?
Crafts could include....
Decorations for the Banquet Table
"Invitations" to those who do and "don't" know Him yet? (great witnessing tool), asking those who don't know Jesus if they "have their invitation" yet?
Crowns to lay at Jesus' feet.
"Heavenly" foods for the table.
