For example, the word Quail starts with Q but follows a u. Im looking for a word that starts with a Q but a u does not follow the Q.

just Q - it's an abbr. for Question and has been accepted to mean 'Question' from I don't know how many years! I am ancient compared to most of the people here and I had that in school way back in 1964 when I was in nursery school.

and of course you have Qatar as many people above said, but Scrabble doesn't permit proper nouns, or just the Q by itself (at least my computer game doesn't), so very often you end up losing 10 points, if you don't get a U along with or after you have got the Q.

qasida - Ahhh Haaaa ... I knew all those history courses would benefit me some how!

If you will take this one! Most English words spelled with q are followed by U.

So, old words, from older societies ... will give us the q minus the U follower!
