Most Christians claim to be a Christian BEFORE they know anything about it. They learn about it AFTER they've already claimed it. Most of them are considered Christians before they could even talk. When Christians do examine Chritianity, they're usually bias against any evidence that would discredit the bible.

Atheists never claim to be atheist before going through a thinking process. Atheists examine Christianity free of being bias.

Having been both, I would have to say atheists are brainwashed. When I seriously looked at the Bible with an attitude of facing facts about myself, my brain was opened as surely as a 1000 watt light bulb had been turned on.

Shocked me (no pun intended) more that anyone!

Wow, Charlie, you are so wrong in so many areas it is hard to know where to start. Let's see, no, most Christians do not go into the faith blindly, we lay it out for anyone to examine, we hide nothing, unlike some beliefs. Oh, by the way, when you use the term "most" I assume you have done random surveys of say a thousand or more people to come up with your assertions. No? didn't think so. And no, most Christians don't consider themselves Christians before you can talk. You see, Charlie, before you can make a profession of faith, you have to be able to speak and think. I love that last line about when we examine the so called "evidence" against the Bible, that we just hide our eyes and scream "No, No!" Sorry Charlie, it don't work that way. I have seen this so called evidence and it never holds water. The Bible has stood the test of time and has faced much, much more than you or anyone can throw at it, and it still stands. It will outlive you and me. I love the arrogance you reveal in the idea that all atheists go through a major thinking process before rejecting the idea of God. I beg to differ. The truth is, most reject God due to moral objections, not intellectual. And considering the Atheistic thought I have seen on this board, I don't think we have much to worry about. And I admire how unbiased atheists are (cough, cough). I won't go any further since I see that you are a young person who I hope will soon mature and realize the foolishness of your youth.

Many who claim to be Christians are not. True Christians are those brave souls who either choose to believe the Bible is the essence of the Word and Will of a Supreme Being upon hearing a limited part of it or else they believe after a careful examination of it. True Christians exemplify God's love toward others.
There is absolutely NO discrepancy between true science and accurate religion.
Atheists are those indivuduals who are self-centered above all else and therefore must deny the existence of a Supreme Being since He would not fit into their definition of the universe.
Atheists are the most biased people on the planet. They cling desperately to "discoveries" long proved to be false. They propogate "theories" in public schools and universities that conflict with modern scientific research.
Who, indeed, is brainwashed?

Every one who is born into this world must make a decision for or against God. Unfortunately, many make this decision without the benefit of having all the facts.
The Apostle Paul told his student, Timothy, "Study to show yourself approved - rightly dividing the Word of God."
There has been much error propogated from both sides of this question. The final decision is yours.

I think you're a little biased against Christians. I'll tell you what I've noticed: a lot of Atheists who post questions in the Religion and Spirituality category for the sole purpose of bashing on Christianity tend to have little or no knowledge of the religion or the bible. I've seen silly questions like "Why is it ok in the bible to drink wine but not beer?" Where do people come up with this stuff? From what I've seen here on Y!A, most Atheists cannot make an educated decision on what they believe because they have no clue about Christianity, or probably any other religion for that matter. Since there is "Separation of Church and State", Christians learn about secular beliefs in school, and Christian beliefs in church, and therefore can make a more educated decision on what they believe is true. But, like I said: that's just been my experience here on Y!A.

Christians will say atheists are, atheists will say Christians are.

I'm an atheist. I think that being brought up in a religion means you probably won't sway from it, and learning that something is right/wrong when you are very young means you probably will believe that forever, but too many people abandon their religions as they get older, or alter their beliefs somehow (either slightly or radically), to say that anyone in really BRAINWASHED. I think it's too strong a term. The fact of the matter is there comes a point (points?) in every adults life when they can choose to stick with the religion they were born into or change what they believe, so no one is really brainwashed.

As a Christian, the world would consider me to be brainwashed. Thank God. I just wish my brain was washed a little cleaner because right now, I'm having some very "unchristian" thoughts about your silly question. Like, why does God even let you breathe His air when not only are you denying His very existance, but you're also mocking His Holy name. You better be glad that God is longsuffering that all should come to repentance. Because if it were me, my patience woluld be ended, and I'd strike you with a bolt of lightening so that the only thing that would be left of you would be a mustache and a pair of suspenders. God help. I pray God convicts your heart and shows you your need of salvation before it's everlasting too late.

Thank you for answering your own question.
You are correct in your reasoning.

The thing that cracks me up is that Christians most likely consider Atheists to be immoral. When you do something "bad" as an Atheist, meaning anti-social or an action for your personal gain to the detriment of another, you must carry the blame and guilt for your actions. Everything you do better be measured carefully, because there is no going back.

Christians very conveniently have all sorts of back doors -- asking for forgiveness from the spirit in the sky, receiving pardons from church leaders... and can walk away washed clean. All ready to treat others like **** once again, with an invisible hall pass in their psyche.

I don't know what any of this is about, but I do know that to be baptized and confirmed in my denomination (Catholic) you have to take a nine month course called RCIA. It is a decision weighed very carefully by the catechumen, that remains totally up to them.

I think people feel far too free to bandy about the politically loaded word "brainwashed." Perhaps it is true that neither are, generally speaking?

There are plenty of Christians who have converted from Atheism, and other religions. In fact, many of the holiest people I know where once Athiests, some of whom converted with great personal cost. But you don't look at that side of the story, now, do you? After all, why would you? Perhaps it's because your biased...
