It could be your video card is old or doesn't support the hardware features Google Earth requires. Look on your card manufacturers site or on a forum to see if and which cards/chipsets are incompatible with Google Earth. (Running a program that's incompatible with the hardware that powers it is like putting a CD-ROM in an X-Box.. Or maybe you're computers too slow? Or, I know Google Earth looks for a network connection. Try to block it with your firewall and see if it works. Maybe a fault in it makes it freeze whenever it tries to connect. The first thing I'd do though is uninstal, look for the newest version, and reinstall, or uninstall and reinstall in any case.

Google Earth is very heavy in terms of Computer Power required is high. It have 3D graphics which required powerful computer as well as fast Internet connection. Use Internet Explorer.
