Because they get special grants from the government to start up there own business or buy an existing business. There is also a wide variety of loan programs for them too. Not only that, but when the first come to the country, they work tax free. What they do is work tax free for the first couple of years, then sell the store to a relative that in turn does the same. Then usually the bad ones over here takes our own money, sends it back home, then fly planes into buildings. Gotta love America

Actually, I work for one... I sure would like to know how they did it... Grants are not so accessible, or if so could you point me in the direction..?
I am not an american....At this moment I work under my own company as an independant entrepreneur for another entrepreneur who is an Asian... All I can say is that one man owns about 20 stations then rents them out to other Asian
friends.... Sure they put long hours, but so the manager and employees who are poorely paid... He finds either americans
who are on parole or others that have different problems...
In my case, I lost a manager job because I could not get
a social number nor won't they accept an application if you are not: a refugee, or have a relative in the USA, or fiance or married.
No, I have none, but yet I have a state permit to act on my own
business, etc...
I am very legal, I simply cannot obtain a social number... I lost 5 positions simply for that factor, I cannot obtain any credit cards, and yet, I have been paying my US taxes for 4 years now...
Try to expain why newcommers seek businesses...??
Simply because it it more simple....... and if you have money,
then you make money with others who are in a worse position than yours.. In my case I have no money, so I have to work and
so I am in a position where I can stay, but only can work for
other independant contractors....
.
If one pays taxes why can we not also have a social number, if only a limited one? It creates many problems not to have but
a tax number, and no credit anywhere...

First of all I don't think Dan67448 or whatever his name is knows what he is talking about. I would be interested in seeing his documentation... but regarding the question: Do you have any idea how much work and how much grief goes into running a family owned motel? I once knew a couple who ran one. In twenty years they never were able to take a vacation together. This is just another case of recent immigrants being willing to take a job that us spoiled Americans just wouldn't do.

Because they are smart business people. That is just a stereotype, I know other cultures that own hotels and gas-stations also. Arabs,Greeks, and Southeast Asian, for example own the same types of businesses. I am extremely proud of them and I do what I can to give them business. The American Dream came true for them, isn't it great ?

Because most of us won't work the long hours it takes to run these small businesses. You'll see these folks with cots in the backroom, they've got the work ethic our parents and grandparents had.
Regrettably, the fruit of all our forefathers hard labor was higher education for our generation and quite honestly.... most of us don't want to put in the hours.
Look at your local high end locally owned department store, most cities had them.. up untill a couple of years back. The kids inherit the business and sell it to first guy with a few sheckles in his pocket.

Well, from what I gather, it's the same in Britain ... they probably do pay taxes, and I don't think most Americans HAVE to sell their businesses to Indians ... :) Friends in England told me though that once you sell to an Indian, they will NEVER sell it back to a white ... never ... so once sold, stays sold ....

My guess would be that they worked hard, saved up their money and started a business. In other countries if you dont own a business you dont make enough money to live, I am not sure if it is that way in India, but if it is, that would make sense to want to own something here. Does it bother you that east indians own businesses?

I'm not sure if they pay taxes or not. I know a few doctors from other countries, and as long as they go home every 6 months, they pay no taxes on their millions.

Presumably they buy them just like anyone else, and presumably they pay taxes. I sure can't imagine California not showing up on their door if they didn't.
Money is money and gas stations can't hide.
