Do you think it was your parents or your parents parents, or your parents parents parents that invented S'Mores? I think they were created as a joke. You take three ingredients, one extremely brittle (graham crackers), one hard as rock, which you have to melt (chocolate), and one that is already soft and sticky (marshmallows). Somehow, with the help of a heat source, you must combine these three ingredients, noteably in there smore form the most challenging thing to do because the chocolate has to melt, but you cannot put it in the fire. So you hope the heat from the mallow will melt the chocolate, but not so. The graham cracker breaks, and the hot sugary mallow and melted chocolate coat your fingers and clothing sometimes. Then to add to the joke you are supposed to prepare these outside, at like the beach, or camping. So then you don't have adequate hand washing facilities, so you end up covered in sticky food, with dirt stuck in it. And they don't taste that great?

I'm thinking you just don't know the proper way to cook or eat a s'more. I'm also thinking you're just not the camping type. I'm also thinking you might just be kind of a whiny complaining type person.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I think you need to learn how to enjoy the finer things in life - like a s'more. Try one with caramel (cut into pieces) instead of chocolate. If you don't like that, you're just hopeless!

Put the chocolate close to the fire so that it gets soft, but doesn't quite melt, that way after you're done singing your marshmallow, the heat form the marshmallow will melt the chocolate the rest of the way.

This is very true. In all of my childhood, I don't think I ever made a successful smore. I always would leave out the chocolate because it was too much sugar, or just start popping marshmallows.

cruel joke? they are a great treat. I think they were invented in the 1920's by one of those betty crocker cookbook makers(?) or by the Girl Scouts- anyway, whoever or how ever they were "invented" they are great!!
you can skip the open fire and use a propane gas grill -we have even made them by the stove.
thanks for reminding me how much I love them!

Wow!!! I think you're right! It's all a vast conspiracy...I'd never considered this before but always just blindly ate the S'mores whenever it was appropriate...struggled to put it together...struggled to enjoy it. Now my eyes have been opened! Thanks a lot!

An experiment - to see if people would buy anything.
Those things are off the meter for sweetness - a little too
sweet for me.
