i met a guy about 3 months ago from a mutual friend who gave him my number and really hit it off...the only thing is that we have never met him in person we talk on the phone and online all the time but last night he told me that he loved me...i really like him but i dont love him....how can i let him down easy and still be friends with him

Ya know, I was on yahoo personals for a year...met lots of men online, talked to some of those on the phone, and met a fewer number in person after some time had passed. I learned one thing...no matter how well you get along online or how much you have in common or how good the pictures look, until I meet that person face to face I cannot know for certain there is any chemistry there. If it isn't there at the first meeting, it will never be there. You cannot know a person until you interact with them in person with conversation, the environment, activity, etc. I would be wary of any guy telling me he loved me sight unseen...sounds more like obsession, which is unhealthy for all.

There is NO way that he can truly love you...he has never even met you in person.....I mean, it could take a few years to really know someone and even then I'm not convinced that you ever really and truly know someone inside and out....Just be honest with him, tell him that you are interested in pursuing the relationship but that it doesn't necessarily mean that you "love" him....I would hope that he understands....people get too involved in the whole internet thing...I mean, it's fun and all but reality should set in at some point...don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's easy to fall into that trap but you just can't let yourself...you have to remain intelligent about the situation.

Simple, just tell him that you love him as a friend. Tell him it's hard to feel anything except friendship because you have never met him in person.

If you dont want him in that way you should tell him the best thing is to be honest with him tell him that its not working out in that way and you want to hang out just as friends and if you still want to be more then friends then maybe try slowing it down or meeting eachother and see what happens then

All you have to do is tell him the truth, that you really like him but you don't love him> Let him know that you will only say I love you to someone when you know that you truly mean it with all your heart.

Nothing beats honesty!
Tell him the truth but being assertive. Make sure he doesnt feel rejected by you! Dont lead him on or give false expectations. Just tell him you LIKE/just being a buddy. Hopefully he will get the idea.

Honey, there's only one way to do this. It is straight forward, don't let him down easily, if you don't love him tell him. If he love you like he say he does, he will still be your friend.
