OK -- All of you creative thinkers, I could use some help. I am redoing my kitchen, but I don't want it to be ordinary... the cabinents will be natual maple with roman arches in the doors, the floor kind of a blue-ish gray ceramic tile, hoscotched. I was thinking of the walls a dark blue (clean slate in Dunn Edwards)to contrast the cabinents. I am not attached to the color choice as we haven't painted yet, so I am open to suggestions.

So here is where I get stuck... I have high ceilings which means a lot of vertical wall space to fill up. I love Americana type paintings, Normon Rockwell and of course "I love Lucy" So, how do I run with that theme? Can I combine all those different types of art, or should I just stick to one? I don't want it to appear tacky, too "country" or too "retro". I thought I might be able to comine the three styles/art with careful planning but don't know how. While I could choose enough art to fill the entire space, I don't want my kitchen to look like an art gallery, so I am looking for some creative accesories. But, I don't want so many novely accesories that it looks like "Joes Crab Shack" Also, I thought I could take my three favorite "I love Lucy" posters and do one of those triple groupings (for those of you who know LUCY -- the wine press scene, the candy job scene and of course the vitameatavegigan scene)

So, any ideas???? I would love to hear any that y'all might have. One idea can spark an idea in another, so keep those ideas coming...

Thanks.

I am a huge I love Lucy fan. Her reruns got me through late night cramming in college.

Your cabinets sound beautiful but I am a bit surprised by the color choice of the floor and walls when you say you want to incorporate your posters. I apologize for any negativity, as I realize that I haven't seen your posters nor do I know you at all, but I don't remember blue being a predominant color in any of the three of those incredible episodes. In my mind, I see more burgundy, plum or wine or even greens supporting your love of all three "types of art" (and especially the wine country in the one episode). I think whatever you decide, it will look amazing. The frames that you pick will make such a difference. In saying this, I would just be mindful of mixing warm and cool colors. Sometimes that makes homes seem so confused. Just some thoughts. Good luck!

Wow sounds like you have a great kitchen!

One solution you might try is to make your walls "appear" shorter than they are, thus reducing the amount of "wallspace" you have to fill.

To achieve this bring your ceiling color down onto the walls about 4 to 6 inches, and put a "trim" in the same color where the paint stops.

I would use whatever color gives you a good "feeling".

You can mix the art, giving your kitchen an "eclectic" look. This is fun as you can mix many different items, from many different "era's" together. You could have a 50's wall for your Lucy art, and use "movie set" accessories, Have Norman on another wall and use "americana, accessories.

Mix it up, have fun!!!!!

Sounds like quite the dilema ... I think you should do a cool 50's diner kind of theme but without all the black and white tile. Doesn't need to be tacky but should be a "little" corny ... Come on ... you know it's right up Lucy's alley!

It could be a little bit June CLeaver and you could get a retro look coffee pot or something to design the rest of the room around.

You could also do a "wall of interest or wall of fame thing" where you could devote just that one wall to a tasteful tribute and do the rest of the kitchen in coordinating style ...

Just a thought or two

The color sounds rich, and with lots of wall space it should make it more cozy.
It seems to me the theme is comedy with food. In that sense you can add the other two types just make sure they reflect it. Norman Rockwell had one painting of a little child with an ice cream cone. (I think it fell off and he caught it in his hand? But am not real clear) but that would work well. I would not group them by type though. Mix them up and have fun with them.
One other thought. Add things like jelly molds, pretty bundt pans and the like to fill the walls. Then just use a few pics to bring in the comedic feel.

I think you have to much going. I also think it will be hard to get the floor to go with the cabinets. I would stick with one theme and go from there. Because it will look tacky. Make sure the first wall you see is BAM!!! you want it to look great. If the rest of your house is country you don't want to get too bold unless you are thinking of a house makeover...
