Yes. One of the main causes of sibling rivalry is the parents . If the parents get involved in all fights , consistently take the side of one child over another , negativly compare one to another or seem to show favortism then sibling rivalry can get brutal. If the parent can decide (unless someone is being physically or emotionally harmed) it is not their fight and let the kids handle it... the kids will start to work together rather than against each other.

No real cure, but one thing that does seem to help with my two is having them discuss things that they like about each other. (Obviously when they are not busy arguing.) For example at the dinner table, I will ask one or the other to tell me something that their sibling did that they enjoyed or that was nice, or something they do well etc. This not only makes them think about the reasons they love each other, but makes them realize that the love is returned. I also praise them for their compliments and thank them for caring for one another.

Ok first and foremost parents are not the cause of sibling rivalry. It just happens. Eventually they will grow out of it. Trust me and and my brothers and sisters did.

Nope. No real cure, but here's a way to get them to stop doing it around you...

Let them slug it out and then when one of them is losing the battle, jump in and start picking on the loser.

I'm a middle child I know this to well, each child needs a special time with just you, something just you and he/she share. Aswell as do family things together show them you love them both.

No, get use to it! Just wait until the younger one gets a little older, yikes, watch out. I wouldn't worry about it, they are both fighting for your attention, just ignore them both they will stop eventually.
