There's no logical explanation for that. It would seem you're just not ready for a relationship if you can't be open and honest with the person.

Don't listen to the first answer.
Ok. This is normal to be scared about someones reaction to you telling the person you like them.
Simply ask him who he likes and to give you clues. Then have him guess who you like and give him clues along the way like " Oh he has beautiful ____eyes" or something. Then you will know.
Tell him how long you have liked him. But ask him how long he has liked you first =)
