Your best bet is the nearest house of worship/church...Also the National Organization for Women chapter may help.

I have heard of a case where a woman took her children to the emergency room of the hospital and they either found or provided shelter through the social services at the hospital. I don't know if that is S.O.P. or not.

Also, if her husband is a vet, she may get help from the nearby veterans administration.

Sometimes the local precinct may be of some assistance for an immediate response.

She must accept the fact that her husband is in jail. If she can make it to the courthouse during the arraignment, maybe the judge will parole her husband during his sentencing deliberations, if she and the kids appear, in person during he court hearings. Or, the judge may move the case more swiftly through the court system once the judge sees there are children involved.

Try this site:

Hope this helps. I've been in situations like these before, and they are not fun to say the least. Find her a reputable homeless shelter to stay until she is able to find a permanent residence. Good luck.

Try going to Social Services or going to the local churches and explain her situation and they will help with no questions asked.
