First Base - This was almost always kissing, although one guy I knew thought it meant holding hands. Sometimes it was tongue kissing and sometimes not.

Second Base - Variously this meant tongue kissing, breast feeling, or outside the clothes genital contact.

Third Base - Usually this was a hand down the pants of you or your partner.

Home Run - This was ALWAYS sex, although it was rarely reached in the times when you had to refer to it in terms of bases.

I think the bases of relationships were created most likely in the US during or around the 1950s. Since baseball is considered by many to be America's favorite past time it would make sense that a taboo subject like sex could be disguised with terms many people would be familiar with, such as bases in baseball.

Correctly....that is Basis for a relationship. Not bases, like some game. Basis, means what a person values in a relationship. Love, sincerity, honesty, etc. The things you need to consider it a good relationship.

As morals and values and gender roles evolved within the human psyche and society, so did the bases of a relationship.
