Do you live in a warm weather climate? The bugs may have been in the product when you bought them or infested the box once open. If they were in the box when you opened it I'd take it back to the store. If you live in a climate where this is a common occurrence I'd make sure that once I opened any grain to seal the box or container in a zip-loc bag or empty the box contents into airtight bag, jar, etc.

Sometimes the bugs were eggs laid in the grain and thus came with the product. Sometimes the problem is because the bugs infested the open container. Either way it is ugh!

By the way ..... more common in the south than the north.

It has happened to me once or twice ...years ago...and I remember it having something to do with it getting old and the bugs form in it and also liked dark and possibly damp surroundings sort of like a cabinet.

The main thing you need to do is contact the company that made your product and distributed it. Check the date and pick up the phone to let them know what happened. Most companies are more than eager to make you a very happy and satisfied customer and will often send you a NEW bag or coupons for FREE bags!

Those you throw out. Unforunately there is a lilelhood that some insect eggs will always find their way to remain in certain dried foods. They really are harmless. It is possible that this occured from outside sources while open in your pantry. In any case, these critters could infest your entire open products from one source. You should inspect all products that are not sealed.

I keep most opened products in the fridge.

Can't remember what they are called, but they come in flour, spices, noodles, bread. You'll have to throw out all food that has them and start all over. They may be larvae in some food -- look for small white worms. Sorry -- I think they are called weevils. Have no idea how to spell it!
