more info would be handy like if you are one of the 2 parents. is this a child from a married, divorced couple, or maybe you had the baby and the dad was never around in traditional ways and now is trying to tell you what you can do.
it is not illegal to leave the state. in fact you can take your child where ever you want withing the united states with or without the other parents approval. the only thing is that you do have to let the other person know where the child's whereabouts are. it is the other parents right to know. at least that's what i was told when my wife decided to take off one day with my daughter to her brothers. i didn't know exactly where they live but knew what city.(I'm in California, your state may have different rules). this is the case if you both have even custody. but if the one of you have a court decision as the primary parent then that person is the one with all the rights to the child. leaving the country would be illegal (easy for like car past Mexico, but against the law.)
if this is a case of domestic abuse and you are trying to get away from your husband, then leave with your child. give info as to where you are going but don't be too detailed. once you're out see the police right away and explain your situation. more then likely they will tell you of many options and help you get a restraining order.

Do the parents have custody of the child? If they are divorced and one does not have custody, it would depend on the court ordered custody arraingements.
If they have custody and they are married to each other, then honestly, you would probably be ok if you had the permission of one or the other.
Either way though, I would strongly suggest getting one (or both) parents to sign a statement, pref. one that was notorized, giving you permission to take their minor child across state lines (this would also help if, say, there was a car accident and medical treatment was needed, etc.)
I believe the law is more lax about this in certain cases though - for example, there's a town that sits on the OH / IN border, literally half the town is in one state, half in the other, with the midline of the high school gym basketball court on the state line, so half the gym is on one state and half is in the other (I know this because I grew up not too far from there.) So, I'm sure if, say, you are a neighbor and you are taking the kids for icecream and the shop is like 3 miles away but in a diff state you wouldn't need a letter...

At least one legal parent must have knowledge of crossing the state line. If the parents are divorced, then the only permission needed is by the court-appointed legal guardian. Without the legal parents' knowledge and permission, the driver of the vehicle could lawfully be charged with "kidnapping a minor child".Don't EVER cross a state line that takes a minor across state lines without the parents' knowledge. There is, however, one way around this for your own protection...and that is this: When you reach a state line which takes the minor out of his or her legal residency, have the minor exit the vehicle and let them cross the state line on their own and on their own two feet...and then pick him or her up AFTER the minor has crossed the line. This prevents you from being charged of kidnapping because the minor crossed the state line by his or her own volition...and you were not involved in the minors own choice in the crossing.
I bring you this information of many years in past times of back-packing and hitch-hiking the United States from sea to sea and them some. While doing such traveling, one picks-up the facts of many necessary laws...and that is an important one...which could land you 20 years in prison, or twenty years of freedom. Take heed to it...I warn you as emphatically as I possibly can.

Yes Otis illegal to leave a state with a minor? Get a note of permission to take the child out of state, or the police will be after you.

Technically, maybe! Maybe not. Was any arrangement for visitation ever made through the courts? Is this a custody thing? Do you mean just any old person leaving with your child? To many unanswered parts to give a good answer.

REGARDLESS if you are a relative or not and you take a minor child across state lines then YOU will be a child abductor...kidnapper and a felon...is it worth taking the child across state lines to you???...i highly doubt it unless YOU want to spend the next 20 years to life in PRISON...
IF i were you i would reconsider taking the minor child across state lines if i were you....especially WITHOUT the child's parents consent....hell..if the child WAS mine i would NOT let ANYBODY to take my son or daughter across state lines no matter if he or she be a very super good friend or a relative....
so to answer your question in more of a shorter version is say...YEEEEES.,..it WOULD be illegal to take a minor child across state lines WITHOUT the child's parent's consent....

One parent is enough actually. But if you don't have at least one's permission, yeah it's illegal and called kidnapped or harboring a runaway, depending on the situation. And it has to be the parent that has custody-the deadbeat Dad or astranged mother don't count.

YES, it's called kidnapping, and was why the Amber Alert was created.
UNLESS a judgment, in court, has been made that one parent is not the legal guardian of that child. Then you only need one parent's agreement.
