If you're supposed to be in a relationship and that keeps occurring, then yes there may be a problem. Assuming it happens a lot and not just occasionally. Maybe he's just not ready for a solid commitment. It only makes him a player if he's leading you on to believing you are the one and only. Maybe you're expecting more than he is at the moment. It's really hard to say not knowing what your relationship is really based on.
It isn't right to make you the stand-by when nothing else is happening, but it's partly your choice to be in that role. Move on if you think he isn't sincere or providing what you need. Then again, you can simply confront him and ask him what the relationship means to him.

Usually guys are either nerdy or players. (I'm a guy). If you're repulsed by the nerdy type then you're stuck dealing with players. Take your pick, then quit whining about the results.
