MAGIC isn't a Harrier GR7. MAGIC is the NATO/RAF AWACS Boeing Sentry (can't remember the numbers) and it is based, I think, at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, England. It's job is to give out tactical information to airbourne units (i.e planes/choppers) under it's control. It can also act as an airbourne ATC post. I think it is usually called MAGIC on TAD frequencies.

AWACS (Airborne Warning And Communication System) is easy to spot - it has a HUGE smartie on it's back.

Many Navy and Marine pilots take on nick-names to use as radio call signs while flying, and sometimes go as far as to paint that name on their helmets and on the side of the airplane. It is possible that the pilot of the Harrier you saw used the nick-name "Magic"
