I just completed reading the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown in May 2006. I read it for three reasons. First of all over 40 million people have read the book. Second of all, the high budget movie with high caliber stars has been released. If 40 million have read the book, you can imagine how many will see the movie. Thirdly, I want to be able to answer the many questions that the book and movie will generate in the minds of many non faith and marginal faith individuals.

Please know upfront that my heart is not to condemn readers or movie goers. My heart is to be able to exalt Jesus and point people to Him. If it takes reading a controversial book of fiction to be able to point people to Jesus in my day, I will gladly read it! There will be multitudes of Christians that will never read the book or see the movie, but they will be quick and vocal in condemning others. I don't want to be counted in that number.

I found the book to be very captivating as it is full of mystery and suspense, but I was very disappointed at the number of historical and theological errors that were made by the author. I think the book could have been just as captivating without the errors. It was obvious that Dan Brown did not put forth a lot of time in historical or theological research.

In Dan Brown's defense, he did make the following statement on the copyright page of The Da Vinci Code: "This book is a work of fiction." Readers and movie goers will need to remind themselves of this fact. I'm sure that in the days ahead, the media will fail to focus on the errors and the fact that the book is admittedly fiction by its author.

Would I read The Da Vinci Code if I had to do it all over? YES! I would for the three reasons I mentioned above. My desire is to point people to Jesus in my day. The book did not even come close to diminishing my faith in the Bible and in the deity of my Lord Jesus Christ. I made a choice a long time ago to make God's Word my authoritative guide to all of my beliefs and actions.

If we are going to point people to Jesus in our day, we need to be informed. In the days ahead, there will be people in our sphere of influence that will have questions. For the attentive follower of Jesus, this book and movie will open many doors of conversation and give many divine appointments. Christians need to be informed and not condemning as we need to use this as an opportunity to point people to Jesus and not drive them away.

The da vinci code is a very bad thing, in my opinion. I think it will do much harm to non-believers as well as Christians. I was having trouble sleeping the other night, and was channel surfing. I started watching a show on the History Channel about the Da Vinci Code. I found what I was seeing and hearing to be so disturbing. They claimed that Jesus was in fact, married to Mary Magdalene and had a daughter by her. She, Mary, supposedly fled to the South of France and the daughter married into French Royality, and that the direct descendents of Jesus are with us today. This is so disturbing that these lies are being broadcased via television, but what was actually more disturbing was that so-called religious leaders and Bible scholars were also saying that although the Bible itself does not mention it, that it was possible for this to have been factual. Indeed it is a lie straight form the bowels of hell! After I turned off the tv, I got to thinking about some things that were as if not more, disturbing than that program was. First of all, there are many more unsaved people on earth than there are saved. And lets face it, very few people, including Christians, that read and study the Bible, and actually know what the Bible says about the Antichrist and the end times. I think that this movie and all of the publicity it has gotten will give people the false belief that this garbage is true, and won't know what the truth actually is, and will fall for it. What a perfect time and opportunity for the Antichrist to come and proclaim he is a direct blood descendant of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, and mislead the world into believing that He is going to SAVE THE WORLD. What a perfect scenerio for the antichrist to enter into power. Think about it. Pretty scary stuff,.

Not very well researched. I'm afraid I haven't read it, but I was told it relies heavily on the Priory of Zion and Da Vinci's supposed involvement with that group. Unfortunately for the author, Dan Brown was it?, the Priory of Zion was discovered to be a hoax started in the 50's or 60's. All the documents they, or rather he (one person did it, was taken to trial and found guilty for it) released were made in his basement and aged artificially.

It's a story. I think it's a testament to the decline in the general population's capacity for critical analysis that people go running off believing everything they see and hear. I read it, I enjoyed it, but I don't think it'sd earth shattering. I also think the religious people making such a hue and cry about it are actually doing it a favour through all the extra publicity.

I think it's funny that the only 2 people who said it was or could be true where Atheist. Funny they believe the son of God existed, but don't believe in God himself. Hurray for the DaVinci Code. It's turning Atheist into believers! That was Dan Brown's original goal, to bring more people into learning about Christianity.

It's definitely a fiction story that was very well researched and very well written - it's not that the Priory of Zion was proved a hoax but that certain documentation was falsified (just like Bush's military records).

I don't think you will burn in Hell for reading it as long as you are comfortable with your own beliefs!

In my opinion, the Da Vinci Code is simply a ficitional documentation. It is a conspiracy of the ages and is receiving a lot of media attention. It is no different from all the other conspiracy theories revovling around the church.

I believe it was a book written by Dan Brown, that can be found in the fiction section. It was made into a movie, based on the fictional book.

A poor attempt at emulating Umberto Eco's book Foucault's Pendulum.

Having read Dan Brown's book, and many others about, having watched many hours watching shows on his ideas, and his own statement that "This is just another way to think about what MIGHT have happened"-I think it's a nice fictional story.
