Each species has its own list of chirps, whistles and screams that mean different things. Some species can mimic the other songs and noises of other species - it appears some finches and sparrow do that to entice a mate.

They're discovering some parrots have their own cultural 'languages', like humans do. Heck, they've discovered that parrotlettes actually name each other! They studied the different calls of these birds and they found that certain birds will be given a chirp that is only used for that bird. Also the way birds name each other differs depending on their location. It's quite fascinating :-) .

To my frustration, I can't find any articles on parrot 'culture'.

Well in S. America the Amazon parrots have different dialects like if you get one from the south and one from the north they will sound different and will not reply to the mating, summoning or other calls. Not different breeds like double yellow heads and blue fronts but like both blue fronts but of the same kind.

Not only do they each have their own language, like humans, they often have their own dialects or regional accents! My husband & I have been avid birders for many years and discovered that many of our familiar northern species seem to acquire a southern drawl down below the Carolinas. Definitely funny the first time you hear it!!

each birds call is different. You wouldn't want a crow getting his early morning nookie call mistaken for a pigeons..imagine the confusion.

Each birds call would seem to be unique too..thus how a young bird can find its parents by their call when it fledges and vice versa.
