I am going away on vacation, but have nobody to watch them... I am planning on leaving them with plenty of water and food. I think they will be OK but I am nervous...

you should have a friend stop in and check on them once a day, at the very least.

I've left mine (two) for a week before so I could go away for Christmas. They were fine and I doubt they even missed us. I left lots of dry food for them...I took 2 boxes (1kg each) and simply simply cut out the large front side and put the whole thing on the floor. Also left plenty of water in several different containers. Came home and all was fine but they didn't eat as much food as they normally would have if I had been home. The litter box was a bit stinky though.

So don't worry about all those other negative people. The beauty of cats is that you can do that and they'd rather you left them in their familiar surroundings than to board them someplace else.

No! That's too long. Even if you leave out extra food or water, it may not be enough. And you never know, what is your cats get into something they shouldn't - like something poisinous to them? It's not worth the risk. Give a friend, family member, or neighbor you really trust one of your house keys, and ask if they will at least drop by every afternoon just to make sure your cats are ok.

Better yet, see if there are any "animal hotels" near by you where you can drop your cats off before you leave. Your cats will have to live in a small space for a those few days, but they will be fed and played with and well taken care of.

Yes, but much better if you have someone check up on the little critter.

Can buy special water holders (the one with water cooler on it is better, cat's have taste buds that taste cool water that's why they like the tiolet)

Must have a super clean cat litter box. Can buy one that self-clean this is your best bet.

If $$$ is problem use baking soda whole box mix really well. May add also ceder chips will help the smell too.

Warning the cat may piss on something if it gets mad!!!

Leave on soft music & the TV & maybe a cool new toy?

Don't forget leave a ton of catnip, they may not even know you where gone!!! :) :) :) :)

You say CATS.. with a plural so that helps.. If ONE cat.. I would have to say no, not a good idea. but if more than one.. you could probably get by with leaving them for 5 days.. assuming they have plenty of water.... possibly in two large pans or containers... and a self feed container that has sufficient feed and... YES AND 3 (at least) litter boxes.. You can make your own litter boxes by using cardboard boxes. I would leave a light on also.. a dim light so at night it would not be totally DARK

Cardboard boxes, that is.. WITH litter in them.... I forgot that.

I have 2 cats and I am taking them with me on vacation. Although they say cats can fare better on their own, have a friend or neighbor check on them once a day to make sure they have food, water, clean kitty litter. About 8 years ago, I left a cat at home and, even though the neighbor checked on her, she peed on mail, clothes, etc., to tell us she was mad at being left alone.

5 days seems a lil too long. you might wanna have someone come to your house to check up on them only to make sure they don't tear into the trash or distroy the house from negligence.

yes cats will show you they are pissed.

make sure you have a bowl that refills water on it's own. usually have a bottle that pours in the bowl when it becomes shallow.

and of course make sure the litter box is clean.

cats tend to be able to take very good care of themselves. you can be home for a week and not notice that they are around

they will be fine as long as you leave enough water and food. If you are really worried about them ask a friend or relative to check in on them every 2 days or everyday! That will make you less nervous about them!

You should be nervous, what if your house catches on fire? Or some other unseen disaster happens while you are gone, the cats can't fend for themselves. And if the litter box gets too full, they will start going outside of the box. What if they get into something harmful, and get sick? theres plenty that could go wrong, please don't leave them alone!!!!

Make sure there is enough dry food, and LOTS of water...put cups all over the place, even buckets. You dont want to risk it. Fill in the bath tub too. Make sure they have clear sand, and put many cups of dry food around the house too. I dont see any prob if you do that.

o_o...are they outside pets? cuz then theyll run away or at night when theyre outside a coyote will eat them. if theyre inside i fear the destruction that awaits u or the feces. but if theyre smart and obedient maybe theyll be ok...leave them at a pet hotel or cousin. i wouldnt leave my dog alone...cuz shes noisy
=/

nostromo above said to fill the bath tub. i know cats r like...smart and have nice reflexes, but can they swim?
