i have been dieting to lose weight and the weight is coming off but i really need to concetrate more on exercising. what are some good moves to help trim thighs that can be performed at home? i can not afford a gym for a few more month. ideas, anyone?

I totally feel you pain and wish I had a good answer. Sadly, spot training isn't really possible except for just tightening flabby muscles. Most likely those pesky thighs are just some stubborn deposits that aren't losing as fast as the rest of the weight....I know of what I speak...I'm 50 pounds into a 100 pound weight loss and my upper body is about a size ahead of my lower body which is driving me crazy. My suggestion is to keep doing what is working for you already. Add walking if you aren't already. It's cheap and it works to burn calories and it works the bottom region. Also add some all over strength work....muscle work increases the calories your body burns ALL the time and there are some great videos on the market which cost very little. While there may be no instant thin thigh shortcut, those babies will get smaller eventually, just be patient, stay the course and enjoy the parts that ARE getting smaller. Good luck!

I'm certainly no physical fitness expert, but I've always heard that it is impossible to "spot reduce". That is, exercising one part of your body will not cause that body part to lose fat. In fact, it will often increase the size of the muscle, making that part of your body actually larger. Exercise can make your muscles firm/hard, which may look good once the fat is gone, but it can't remove the fat that covers the muscle. Only dieting can do that, and dieting causes you to lose weight everywhere, not just on one specific part.

You're going to think I'm crazy, but the Thighmaster works really well for me, if you can find one. I bought mine on ebay and use it every night while I watch tv. Another good one is get a children's ball, put it between your knees while sitting down. Squeeze your legs towards the ball as if you are trying to hold it there. Hold it for as long as you can and repeat 10 times.

As others have said, you cannot spot reduce. For burning more calories, try walking or running. All you need are good shoes--just head outside. For toning your thighs, lunges and squats are great exercises.
