Egg salad is my favorite.

I also like tuna with sweet relish and boiled egg bits.

Chicken salad is good and easy to make fresh from chicken breast meat. Just drop the chicken breast into some boiling water and let it cook for about 15 minutes until cooked all the way through. Chop up the meet and mix with mayo, paprika and celery.

Pimiento cheese sandwiches are good.

A crudite sandwich is very good: the best I ever had was in Paris. It was made of sliced boiled eggs, bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumber and salt and pepper.

Try different breads, too, like pita bread or flat bread.

And, of course, peanut butter and jelly! I really prefer crunch pb with honey, tho!

The primary reason is concerns over listeria. Listeria was identified in the 90s as one cause of miscarriage and stillbirth. You can still have them, although with the salt and nitrates, they are not your best food choice. Cold cuts have less nutrition than fresh meats. Just make sure that you heat the meat piping hot. Don't get sandwiches at delis, even in the grocery store. Also, don't get cheese at the grocery deli. Buy it prepackaged. Cheese made from pasteurized milk doesn't have listeria, but cross-contamination can occur from any meat that could be contaminated. Lots of women completely ignore the advice and just continue to do as they wish. In most cases, they will be just fine. Listeria contamination is not that widespread. However, there are women who lose their babies every year due to this - it just doesn't make the news or the papers. I simply choose to make sandwiches from other things. Not worth the risk to me. I disagree with the other poster (Common Sense Dad). Listeria was identified as a cause of miscarriage and stillbirth when a group of women, fresh from a prenatal class, got together to have a post-class lunch. About 2/3rds of the women lost their babies to either miscarriage or stillbirth. Shellfish, contaminated with listeria, were found to have caused this tragedy. This incident occurred, I believe, in the UK somewhere in the very late 80s. Since then, of course, children under 5 and adults over 65 have been found to be vulnerable to listeria infection, but those cases don't usually make the papers.

I make these for my husband and his co-workers think he is spoiled:

Norwegian flat bread (found in most stores and sometimes called Lefse Bread) with garlic cream cheese spread on the bread layered with pastrami and lettuce, thinly sliced tomatoes and carrot sticks rolled (like a burrito) in the bread.

A hard french roll with pizza sauce spread onto the halves, Canadian Bacon, green paper, pineapple and cheese. Can also be done with pepperoni and black olives.

A pita bread, split, with spaghetti sauce green peppers, mushrooms, hamburger lunch meat or sliced meatballs, topped with a generous portion of Parmesan Cheese Sprinkles.

A whole wheat tortilla warmed a few seconds in the microwave so it becomes pliable. Top with the spicy Jack cheese slices, avocado slices, a couple fish sticks, salsa and olives--roll like a burrito.

Sandwiches are the best things ever....especially if you have a Panini Grill or even a George Foreman.

1. Spread any kind of jam or jelly and cream cheese onto bread, then grill it up! It melts and its a sweet treat.

2. A sharp cheese and apples, grilled

3. Avocado, mango and chicken

Chicken salad is the best. Also: meatloaf sandwiches. Steak sandwiches. Heck, you can almost put any meat on a sandwich that doesnt have a bone in it.
