I think the main point of the scripture verse is found in...

2 Cor. 7:10 (NIV)
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Paul had sent a harsh letter to the Corinthians..

It appears that Paul wrote 4 letters to the Corinthians, but we only have 2 of them.

1 Corinthians is actually Pauls second letter to them
1 Cor. 5:9 (NKJV)
I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.

2 Corintihans is his fourth letter to them.
2 Cor. 7:12 (NKJV)
Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you.

Anyways....

......and they listened to his words...repented and were humble. He wasn't sre how they would take his rebuke. Sometimes people don't listen...they justify the sin they are in and make up excuses why they feel they can sin and how God will still be Okay with everything.

Thanks for making me study!

I couldn't say how "unique" they are but in the first part Paul is telling us that he has the gift of celibacy and he wishes everyone else had that gift too but since they don't they should get married so they don't fall into sexual sin. Husbands and wives shouldn't use sex as a weapon against each other but should provide for each other's sexual needs.

Married people should stay married unless the spouse is an unbeliever and either abandons the believing spouse or pushes for a divorce. In that case the believer is free to remarry. If two believers cannot live together in harmony then they should remain married and seek reconciliation although they don't have to live in the same house together.

Paul is talking to the Corinthians and imposing his beliefs on them,he was full of the Pharisees doctrine and took great pride in mixing up his old religion in with new doctrine, that is why there were divisions between him and
Peter.Jesus prayed in the 17th chapter of St. John for the ones that were with him and the ones that heard their word. That was not Paul and it is no wonder to me why so many people are confused about his teachings.

I am reading it in the "Message" and do not like what I am reading. It sounds like Paul was overly critical of the church at Corinth out of upset of what hea had heard. Since the outcome was a church to Titus' liking, Paul is justifying his harshness by that success.

Kind of "the ends justifies the means".

I wonder if this is where many have learned to preach hell and damnation instead of love, forgiveness, grace and mercy?

From what I understand Paul sent Titus to Corinth with a letter telling them to repent, that they were doing wrong. The Corinthians did repent and this made Paul happy, but while he was waiting to hear what there response to his letter would be he was worried about whether they would accept what he had to say or if they would turn their backs on him.

In his first letter to the church at Corinth, he had corrected them about divisions, immorality, lawsuits that they were entering into with each other, marriage and divorce, eating food that had been sacrificed to idols. These things he had corrected them about, they then became sorry for the things they were being confronted on. When he heard from Titus that things were going well, he was happy that they repented. His encouragement to them that godly sorrow, that leads to repentance has no regret mixed in with it.

Paul is again addressing the Corinthians. He chastized them in a previous letter and is now writing to them again after receiving news from Titus about their sorry. Paul regrets having to chastize them but knows it was for the better.

I think it means, It is bad if man should touch a woman, but because of our sin. God made a loop hole by making marraige. What allows us to fornicate. No husband or wife should deny each other of sex, because if they do their decisions could make them do sinful acts by cheating, and lust devilish things. If your husband or wife ask you for sex. you do not take his/her request as a command, but as something that can help them for them not to do sinful acts in the future. For people that are not married, or were married because their spouces died. Can remain single, but if they can't controle their sexual hormones they should get married. for it is better to be marry then to be unfaithful, but if you get a divorce you may not remarry again, only if you go back with your ex husband or ex wife. If your husband or wife does not believe in God you should not lieve him, because you should sacrifice your self to him. and his/her child may be clean.
