I have 4 more cats and they all eat from the same bowl(s) so feeding him at specific times is impossible.

He has no sense of security yet, so for him, every meal is like a fortune, and might mean the last one too. Wait for a few months, he will calm down and join the club.

Hes hungry, did the vet check for worms or offer you any advice as to what it may be?? If hes eatting TOO much and not gaining weight then you have a problem. But if hes gaining weight then switch to a "lite" cat food. I have just 2 cats and its impossible to feed them seperately all day. give the others treats every now and then. Another thing you could try is, my sister gives her cats can food and when she does she puts one in the bathroom (the piggy) while the others eat to make sure they all get enough food.

He could have worms however, I had a cat that came from a demolition yard in the city. I found that this particular cat (and only this one) would eat everything up as soon as the food was put down, then he would eat the left overs and still want more food. I figured out that as a kitten in a demolition yard, this animal could well be afraid it may not find more food, so his defence is to eat it when it is there. Does this make any sense?
Anyway I hope that it is as simple as that.

Oftentimes, if a cat constantly eats, he has worms.. might be a good idea to get him to the vet.. unless you can check the litter box as soon as he goes for a dump and check his stool to see if there are worms in it. Regardless, I'd have the vet check him out.. We have 4 males as well ... they all eat about the same.. but they're indoor cats. If yours was an outdoor cat.. he may have eaten mice and sometimes they can get worms from eating mice.. not sure why.. but I do know it can happen.

It depends on what you mean. Cats tend to "graze"...they'll eat a lttle bit and then later on nibble some more. This is normal behavior as far as i can tell from all the cats I've had. My cats tend to have extreme bursts of energy and then nap and eat and nap and eat a little more. If your cat is pigging out maybe you need to leave dry food out and available all day so he can eat little meals all day. He may also be trying to assert himself as he is the newcomer in your house. Is he fighting or pushing the other cats out of the way? Male cats tend to want to be the first and biggest eater...its their "station" in cat/life. Ive also found that a higher quality denser dry food seems to satisfy my cats longer. Hope this helps.

Worms would be first guess. Check his fur for flea presense. Look at his tommy, is is too big? May be the sign of parasites.
In any case, would be wise to check with your vet, could be Tyroid problem too. Give it a couple of days, condition will improve, if it was just a stress eating.

Some animals will eat whenever they want, not only when they are hungry. Get one of the electronic bowls that only allow them to eat a certain amount.
He needs to stop eating so much or he will get so many things wrong with him, it will do your head in.
He will die a painful death.
Obesity is very common but very bad.

Ask your vet about the bowl i speak of,
Alison

Maybe he has worms. take him to the vet to see. If not maybe he just likes food. maybe he was hungry when he was little. So he thinks he needs to eat. sit out just alittle food at a time so he doesn't get over weight. Trust me. I have alot of cats. I had one named Tigger that she would eat all the time.

hmmmm..... well you said you adopted him so you really dont know much about his past...... he could have been a stray so he would have had to eat when he could so he may just be eating a lot because he may not know if this food source is going to end of not..... as for ways to make this stop im really not sure maybe you and your vet should try to brainstorm some possible ways to deal with this

if he eats all the time, there is no problem with that, he is just a fat healthy cat, chang his diet to some low fat food, so he doesn't get fat, but other then that let the little guy eat. Im sure he is happy just eating. there is nothing wrong with it,. My cats eat like pigs. lol
