Spirituality is not only the domain of religion. Everyone can be spiritual, despite their individual beliefs. People are capable of expanding their minds and believing that the world is not black or white, yes or no. People can believe that many options/concepts/theories (ie: creationism and evolution) are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

The experience we all call 'spirituality" is indeed shared by believers and non-believers. Had we the skeptics been consulted on what to call that emotion beforehand, we probably would have opted for something less suggestive of superstition. Religious people inevitably disguise, and therefore misunderstand, its nature. And there are many manifestations of it.

There is the profound sense of awe at the vastness and mystery of the universe. Sure, we peck away at its edges with science and intellectual rigor, but we are too small not to be impressed by its majestic largeness. We can sometimes also approximate a feeling of an "extended self," an intimate and moving connection with others AND the universe. This can evoke emotions that have to be called "fundamental." We part with our pettiness, and, however momentarily, become capable of great mercy, compassion, lucid forgiveness, and a generalized sense of love.

Yes, those of us who many of you think are "condemned" have THAT spirituality. It's just kindled by the "spirit" of our humanity.

You can be a humanist and think spiritually. Christians don't have the corner on a spiritual life. Atheists are not necessarily bad people, they just don't believe in a God per se. That doesn't mean they don't feel love for other human beings. I think that is stereotyping and there is too much of that already. Take people as they come and go from there.

im sure they can, only what they consider spritual may not look exactly like what the average christian or muslim or whatever considers spiritual. perhaps they have lacked religious backgrounds, and do not know where to begin. also they probably think as spiritually as did our ancestors many millenia ago; the ones that barely had a language. they had that sense of a higher power, but could not define it.

An atheist only does not believe in a supreme Deity. They can be open to and may practice many spiritual paths.

Yup, I believe so.

Beware that you're gonna get some serious tounge lashing from people that are defending their beliefs.

I think that spirituality is entirely individual and that religion is only a catalyst to discovering your own spirituality.

Definitions of Spiritual:
1: Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material.
2: Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul.
3: Of, from, or relating to God; deific.
4: Of or belonging to a church or religion; sacred.
5: Relating to or having the nature of spirits or a spirit; supernatural.

1 and 2 are the most common uses of the word, and they have nothing to do with either religion or God

What's the problem?
anyone who asks questions like:
Why are we here?
Where are we going?
What is the purpose of life?
That's a spiritual person, whether the accept God or not.
