Real bariatric medicine brings in nutritionists, internal medicine specialists, et al to help people take control of their weight and their eating habits. Some clinics are really just fronts for surgeons who have found this to be a VERY lucrative field. They're not interested in teaching you how to control your eating, but just in pushing a very dangerous surgical procedure that's killed an aweful lot of people.

I was seen by 3 different bariatric medicine programs in Chicago before finding the one that really helped me. Illinois Masonic was a good program, but I didn't click with the medical director (though the nutritionist was TOPS!) Evanston Hospital had someone who was just too pushy towards gastric bypass surgery and I wasn't ready to go there. I've had 3 friends die having it.

Then I found a smaller, but infinitely perfect for me program at Swedish Covenant. The doctors worked with me, as did the nutritionists. I eventually decided that I wanted to have a gastric lapband surgery (sooooo much safer than bypass). I haven't regretted it for a minute. I'm still heavier than the books say I should be, but I am living a very healthy lifestyle and really incorporated nutritional changes into my everyday life. I haven't lost the mega pounds others have done with gastric bypass, but unlike them, I also haven't gained a pound in 3 years.

I don't have diabetes or sleep apnea anymore. If something falls on the floor, I can bend over and pick it up. I wear normal-sized clothes and don't have to dress like an old Russia babuska anymore. In fact, I really like my body now....I have nice curves that were always hidden by layers of fat.

If you can find the right holistic bariatric program, go for it. Just don't let them talk you into cutting and pasting your insides for the sake of a rapid (and NOT permanent) weightloss.

Keep that meal between 400 and 800 calories. Serve yourself a small portion, so if you like returning to college for seconds, you'll just wind up eating a normal-size portion.

Add veggies to baked things. You'll never even taste the zucchini in these brownies or perhaps the sweet potato in these kinds of cookies.

Instead connected with cream cheese or butter with bread or bagels, spread almond or peanut butter. The healthy fats satiate hunger which enables it to decrease belly fat.
