Poison ivy dermatitis is not contagious and is not spread from the fluid from the blisters. Although I had it many times as a youth and I swear wherever I scratched, the blisters followed a path. Oh and one home trick for the terrible itch-alcohol pad. Rub it and scratch with it-oh what a relief!

Once again misinformation runs wild here. The rash you get with poison ivy is an allergic reaction therefore it cannot be contagious since it obviously isn't a disease. If your skin has been washed clean of the oil of the plants which is what causes the rash you cannot pass it to anyone else. The fluids you see coming from the rash is lymph fluid.

No, it is NOT contagious. I had contact with the plant and broke out 5 days later. I have been to the Dr. Everything I've read indicates that it is an allergic reaction to the oil and not everyone is allergic. My sisters walked around the same area and they did not break out. IT IS NOT CONTAGIOUS>
