I got a book called Curly Girls especially for curly-haired women (like me.) The author basically says stop using shampoo on your hair because it roughs up the cuticle and makes it more likely to break off. Same for brushing your hair. I follow her routine: I wash my roots with shampoo (allowed) but only after I cover the lower half with conditioner to protect it from the shampoo. Then I condition the whole length after rinsing out the shampoo/conditioner combo. I rinse out only some of the conditioner and dry gently with a towel, scrunching it up. I only use a little light gel on my hair and now it is almost frizz-free and it just keeps growing. And my hair smells delicious--I actually had someone tell me recently that my hair smelled great and she asked what I use. Currently, it's Aussie Dual Personality conditioner (the stuff you can smell--the shampoo is unscented.) You may want to see the book--it has more info and suggestions on products and treatments for your hair. And don't blow-dry if at all possible, and don't use other heat stylers. It's worked for me and I dye my hair (but I almost never heat-styled after I started dyeing my hair.) Keep the ends trimmed to manage split ends--after the ends split, they break off and then the part above breaks off...split ends just keep traveling up the hair shaft. But if that doesn't work, maybe your hair grows slowly or has a fast turnover rate and it falls out before it can get very long. Sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.

If you color your hair then maybe that's the problem. You have to stop adding chemicals like hair spray and gel and hair products. taking a shower you can. But putting it back in a pony tail makes you hair grow faster and braiding it.

what you need to do is when in the shower put the shampoo in and scrub then scrub your head upside down for 3-4 min every time you in the shower.
rinse then condition you hair and make sure its at the end of your shower, scrub and right as you want to rinse it out turn it to really cold water. then get out of your shower. hair should get longer in about 2 weeks

Yes! Get a dusting every six weeks. Cut back shampooing to 2x per week...you could be drying it out if your hair is bleached.
