If somebody is depressed, it would be as if they were drunk... IE in the wromg state of mind.
It might actually make the situation WORSE by confusing the person with thoughts of a deeper relationship than what there really is... that is assuming people still have sex as a way of a deeper intamacy instead of a recreational sport.
I assume you actually MAY have feelings more than just friendship for this person since you are conisdering this. If that is the case, than even MORE so... DON'T do it. To act now while they are sorting through things may ruin any chance you have in the future.

I would never do that. I think temporarily it would help them feel better physically and mentally- but only because you would be giving them a boost of confidence or showing them that they are wanted. In the end though, this could do a lot more harm to them. If you sleep with someone because you feel bad for them- and if they found out thats why you slept with them- it would only make things worse. So in the end, I don't think it is a wise decision. However, if you truly care about the person, and if you're in a relationship with them, there is nothing wrong with sleeping with them.

I would say that it could be a good thing or a bad thing. It would depend on all the specific details - the people involved, their relationship, etc. It will probably help the person short term, but you have to think about the long-term implications, including its effect on you (assuming that you are the person trying to help her friend who is depressed). Also, short-term help is all you can expect. Unless, of course, you fall in love, get married and live happily ever after :)

no i would not. When someone is depressed having sex with them is only a temporary distraction from how they feel. In the long run they are probably going to need to see a counsler or doctor to help them.

No, because that would be a simple case of taking advantage of someone experiencing vulnerability. A movie or an afternoon hanging out in the park could be an option.

typically "true" depression is caused by a chemical imbalance, in which case no amount of sex is going to cure that. the person needs therapy and possibly prescriptions -- but that should be the decision of the therapist.
