Wrong... no, certainly not, and my symptathy for your loss. Our pets are parts of our family, and when you have a death in the family it's natural to morn. Unfortunately most employers might not agree. I was only able to take 1 1/2 days off when my wifes father died, and I've worked when I've had to work when I've had the stomach flu, three broken ribs, a concusion, and I worked today with a torn ligament in my foot and a broken toe..... you know, some times I hate my job.

I'm really sorry to hear about the death of your pet, and I don't think that it's a bad reason at all to stay home. Even if you did go to work, you might end up not doing a great job or being distracted all day because of the grief. If your boss wonders where you are, you might want to tell him or her that you were sick, though, since not everyone understands how much pets mean to people and your boss might think its a bad reason to stay home.

No, it's not. Your pet was a part of your family. Some bosses will be understanding, others will not. Call in sick if you can't take a personal day.

Sorry for your loss.

Anyone that sees your question as inappropriate or ridiculous simply:

1. Doesn't like,
2. Hasn't had,
3. Has now but doesn't really like,

-- animals as pets.

It's that simple -- because if you love and care for an animal, it simply IS a family member -- end of story. Anyone who demeans you for your grief is either insensitive or cruel, or both.

Best to you...
:)

no it's not wrong. everyone reacts to death in their own way. If that's your pet and you are grieving, take care of yourself. Anyone that has had a pet understands what it's like to lose it.

I wouldn't say it's wrong because some times you have to, but I couldn't bring myself to do it when my dog died. Also, if you do take off be ready for the people that say "you took off just because your dog died," you know some people just don't understand.

No, pets can be very much like dear family members. You should take time to greive just as you would for any other family.

Of course not. When my cat dies I probably won't be able to stop crying. Crying constantly in the workplace is generally frowned upon.

Grief is grief, I think it's okay to take the day off but I'm not your boss. You might just say you need a personal day, which is true. I'm sorry for your loss.
