I've seriously been thinking about getting a breast reduction. Before having kids, I was at a 36C, after having 2 kids, I'm at a 40DD. I'm starting to have problems with my back that I think may be associated with my breasts. My question is, do most insurance policies cover a breast reduction or could I possibly have to pay out of pocket? I'm short, only 5'1'' and I feel like my breasts are weighing me down.

I recently had a breast reduction and definitely recommend it!

Most insurance companies will cover you if you qualify. They consider things like height, age, weight, and the pain you're having. Usually, they need to take 300 CCs from each breast to qualify. You would probably be a small C.

I would suggest going for a consultation with a surgeon. He'll be able to tell you if you will be covered and put in a request to your insurance company. It sounds, to me, like you'll make the cut.

I'm 4'10 and had the surgery for the same reasons - the stupid things were weighing me down! It has been the most amazing experience and I'm SO glad that I did it! I hope you will too!

First off, reducing is augmenting them, but augmenting does not mean reducing. Augment means: to change.

Depending on your insurance company it may be covered. That also depends on the size of you, weight of your breasts, if your bra is "cutting in" to your shoulder. You may very well have to pay out of your pocket. But if you are really petite and they are just a hindrance, you might get it paid for.

Sounds like a good idea. I think you can get it covered for health reasons. I know someone who had it done, she couldn't lose the weight there after her son, and it was causing back problems. She looked a lot better after, healthier and skinnier.

Your insurance might cover it if it is a medically neccessary procedure. If it is affecting you then it might be needed. Ask your doctor and call your insurance company.

My opinion is that breast reduction is twice as bad as abortion.
