I need therapy. Lot's of it. I'm really depressed and a cutter. The cutting is getting worse and I'm freaking out. Do I need a psychitrist or psycholigist? I went to a therapist once and he talked to me for 45 min. and put me on anti-depressants. I didn't like that he just threw some drugs at me and sent me on my way. I wanna talk to someone. I want weekly sessions, if not more. What do I need?

ive had both and thats what you need ive even had the same problems as you the cologist will help you find safer alternatives and the iatrist will read the reports and decide what kind of meds are right for you and see if your problem is bipolar, depression, etc. mine was bipolar and as soon as they figure out which disease it is that you are suffering from they will work from there on how to deal with your cutting and depression if you have anymore questions just ask me

The best option would be a Psychiatrist who not only prescribes medication (if needed) but one who is also a Psychotherapist. Cognitive Behaviral Therapy is the best route! There are also a LOT of Psychologists to go to as well!

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that dispenses drugs. They will talk to you, but rely on the drug therapy too.

A psychologist cannot dispense drugs. The psychologist will do much more talking.

It sounds like you tried a psychiatrist but want a psychologist.

You should also do lots of exercise which is good for feeling better.

psychiatrists are more helpful if you've got supressed problems which you haven't dealt with properly while psychologists are better for on-going problems. you could benefit from either. but when you see them, tell them you want weekly sessions, not drugs. a good service will provide weekly sessions.
