Keep the wound clean, with saline and blot with sterile gauze. Apply triple antibiotic (like Bacitracin) ointment twice daily.

The best way is to keep the scrape/abrasion clean and covered. Change the dressing at least once a day - cleaning the wound with soap and water, applying some type of antibiotic ointment, and then covering with a bandage. Wounds require moist surfaces to heal the best, so if you let it air out and dry out the wound won't heal as well.

Since you need a prescription for saline (to clean a wound with: irrigation saline) - most of us don't have an ER at home (LOL) yes, soap and water is best to clean with.

It is true, that most scrapes and abrasions heal better in a moist environment so get stuck on a band-aid!

You can develop an allergy to neosporin(neomycin) (one of the antibiotics in the triple antibiotic cream/ointment) so I do like the polysporin antibiotic cream better (double antibiotic cream/ointment) , or the plain old bacitracin cream/ointment (single antibiotic).

Don't forget a good old fashioned kiss on the ole boo-boo from that special someone to make you feel better! =) That's the icing on the cake!

Cold pressed castor oil is not only antiseptic but greatly speeds healing. Don't get regular castor at a drugstore. If you can't find it at a health food store then a great source is http://www.mothernature.com , Another option is to go buy an Aloe Vera cactus and rub the gel from the inside of a leaf on the wound. If you don't trust these natural remedies I recommend original polysporin, you should stay away from neosporin because it contains neomycin which has been shown to slow healing in a large percentage of people.

Castor oil comes from the Ricinus communis bean.
