The air is not that polluted. Will it be, eventually? Maybe.

The fact is, right now the amount of pollutants in the air in the worst areas of the world (Mexico City, Los Angeles, etc) are enough to cause some basic health issues at worst. This isn't to say that the air is "good," but it is not nearly as bad as many people make it seem. It would be nice if people took steps to lower the emissions that we put out, but in absence of that, I know that the air in the desert is actually quite nice... except for all of the dust... which is actually worse for you than smog depending on your chemical makeup.

1. people are tough and adapted to imperfect air
2. in many places in the world the air is less polluted than it was 100 years ago
3. even where air pollution is dangerously severe, it is a slow killer --the species survival is not threatened by illness that takes 40 years to kill (people are past the breeding age by then)

so, humans survive

if it is causing you major health problems, move to a place where the air is cleaner. despite what many would like you to believe, there is lots of open space and places that are not overpopulated. i don't understand why people want to be piled on top of each other.

we'd become extinct before the human population can evolve enough to survive pollution.
but yeah, carbon dioxide in the air is taken care of by trees, which use this and give off oxygen. they're killing the trees in the rainforest, but theres been some replanting of trees to try to make up for it. dunno how well thats working, but yeah. plant more trees for cleaner air.
