Absolutely! The first marriage was arranged by God himself. (Adam and Eve). That ought to tell you something!

Pah. Marriage is material, arbitrary and it's purpose is procreation. Procreation is sacred, that doesn't mean marriage is. Procreation can happen without marriage. Marriage just ensures, or rather, increases the probability that a man is raising his own child. To me, that's pretty damn petty. Marriage isn't a sacred thing at all. It is a petty grab by an insecure individual to bind another to his or her will.

Whether we view marriage as sacred or not does not change the fact that marriage is sacred. Just because a lot of us humans abuse it doesn't change the facts. God Bless you.

Of course! If a person enters a marriage and doesn't view it as sacred, how is there any chance that the lifelong commitment will strengthen and survive?

It should be LIVED sacred and NOT viewed sacred. If you are married your marriage should be an upward call to those around you.

Marriage began as a property agreement/contract, and to form alliances.

Sacred is, as sacred comes - it has different weight according to different people. In the US, it's mostly a legal agreement and less of a religious one.

In Christianity, marriage is called the Sacrament of Matrimony...so there's your answer.

In secular life, it can be whatever you want it to be. Most people use it as a legal fiction to "prove" their love for each other...until there's a big fight, or whatever, as well as to get great fringe benefits from the workplace and government. There's a lot of "married singles" running around out there with a marriage license!

They are two completely different things.

Yes. It's the most intimate bond two people can share (except for being mother and child.) It's one of the most sacred things on Earth.

Yes, God made the union of Marriage before sin came into the world. It is also a picture of how Jesus and the church are to be married in the end of time.
