With all the conflict in the world today, due at least in part to the conflict of different religious beliefs and perspectives, would it not be a better investment for the future to encourage free thought regarding faith, i.e. forget religious 'education' and facilitate the development of an internal body of concepts concerning the innate curiosity of an individual, with each individual's considerations and conclusions mutually exclusive from another?

Using mutally exclusive I was meaning that an individual's ideas or opinions on anything are not absolutely related to another's. Mutually independent is probably better though.
The crux of my argument is, why read a book or listen to anyone else's ideas when you can develop your own.
Any by facilitate I mean don't let a child manage to develop the idea that stealing is morally right for example.

Absolutely! Ones beliefs are personal and should be kept to oneself.

Religion is nothing to do with belief it's all about control and that's why we'll never get rid of it. When it comes to free thought there are some that need to be told what to think and they are the religious among us and there very survival depends on their religion and there is no way they're going to let it go.

Good question and well written. Jules, Australia.

In the form of tolerance and understanding. Some sheep cannot think for themselves. We peaceful individuals hope that they will find the right shepherd who will lead them in an understanding and peaceful coexistence with the flock next door or on the other side of the world!

Yes let's all hold hands and sing.See how long we last before a terrorist beheads us,with a smile on his face.
God doesn't make war.Politicians use faith as an excuse to hide their own lust for power.
It's not religion we should do away with,it's unlimited politcal power based on who has the most money and influence.

Yes, you are right...IF everyone had disipline, intellectuality and pure intentions. How ever we do not...Man is still a primal beast and reacts best to the reward tactic of slavation of the fear factor of damnation. Religion is often a tool to govern mankind. We are the most dangerous being in the entire universe and canot control ourselfs withour religion which gives us disipline. People are slowly changing to your views and waht is happening is a decay in morality. No one will admit that mankind canot control himself and needs to trick himself into staying within due bounds to preserve life. My God look what we are doing to this planet, the ozone layer is gone, the sea is empty of fish and we continue to breed like rabbits,,,,,On the same line I would like to see you take your question and tie it into how are we going to control overpopulation through this new religion.....Read Neitche..."God is Dead". NO, it's much easier to be ignorant of others beliefs; for I am the only one that's right. The other 6 billion people in the world are wrong.

Yes, I think that you are right. It won't happenn though. There are too many people in authority that dogmatically hold on to their opinions, no matter how wrong they are. These people will prevent any change to the education system except fo make it more conservative.

If they are all mutually exclusive, how would you facilitate their development? (I assume you mean mutually *independent*, not exclusive, which implies no possible overlap.)

Conflict arises out of differences, not similarities...how would religious relativism solve that?

SO YOU WILL CUT IT DOWN TO CONFLICTS FOR MONEY, LAND, AND ARMS THEMSELVES (NEVER FORGET THE ETHNIC NO RELIGIOUS REALTED ISSUES)
TE SECOND PART OF YOUR QUESTION DOESN´T MAKE SENSE BY THE WAY UNLESS YOU´RE TEH ONLY BEING IN THE WORLD SO YOU ARE EXCLUDED FROM ANY OTHER THEN I´M SURE YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY WAR , BIG SCALE ANYWAY

Sounds like something that Satan would come out with to try to lead people a way from the truth. Satan is the Father of lies. Jesus is the Truth.

I agree with you in some way. My mother is very catholic but I dont pay much attention to the things she says. I consider myself catholic too but one thing that I differ in is that I believe in evolution too.
