I heard that if you never spay your dog and she never has puppies she gets sick and dies. Also that if you never spay her she should have puppies at least once. Is that true?

Both of those questions are false, but not spaying your female will cause her to be more agressive, hormonal, go into heat(she will bleed, like a human time of the month), and have trouble keeping a healthy weight. Spaying and neutering your pet is the best thing you can do for him/her. There are many unfounded myths about spaying and nuetering, both of your questions included. I work with dog rescues and humane societies and spaying will give your dog a better temperament, better quality of life, and a better companion. She will also live longer. Letting her have "just one litter" just feeds the pet overpopulation. Even If you find homes for all the pups, you have just taken those homes away from dogs already on death row at your local animal shelter. Please spay and neuter. It is heather for you and your dog, and it helps keep unwanted dogs from being put down.

Spayed dogs will not get pyometra and some cancers. Unspayed dogs have a 30% higher chance of bone cancer and anytime your dog has surgery it is a risk. Spayed dogs have less muscle mass which could result in more injuries if you are planning on doing any performance sports with your dog

This is a personal decision and there are pros and cons for fixing and leaving intact no matter what all the AR-lites on this board tell you. You do not HAVE to spay as long as you are responsible and keep her away from any male dogs, but spaying sure is easier than a ***** in season 1-2 a year!

Spaying a dog before they have puppies will not shorten their life. Spaying them prevents unwanted puppies and can prevent problems from occuring later in life. Spay your dog, it's the responsible pet owner thing to do!

no. there are alot of rumors about spaying and neutering a dog. They get fat etc. it is far healthier for her and as far as pups go. there are way to many out there with no homes that get put down. Spay her. The thing about her dieing if you don't let her have puppies and don't spay her is rediculous. IT's like you never having kids. would you die? no. same thing.

Eventually everything dies. But not because they didn't procreate. If you don't want your dog to have puppies, get her spayed. It will be a lot more comfortable for her and you.

As everyone else has said- SPAY YOUR DOG! Intact females have a much higher incidence of cancer due to the hormone floods every 6 months.
NO DOG HAS EVER BENEFITED FROM PARENTHOOD! Besides, having a litter will not only increase the already burdensome dog population but it will destroy her girlish figure so to speak.

All responsible pet owners should spay and neuter their dogs. Spaying helps to prevent all sorts of diseases including cancers, uterine infections, false pregnancies, etc.

some animals get infected wombs (pyometra) if they are not spayed which can be a life threating conditon but this does not happen to every single dog.
there is no need to let her have a litter of puppies at all.
