A lot of people I know say they love NYC and I just don't get it. It's crowded, dirty, mucky, and the horrible traffic. I've never been there but this is what I have also heard from other people I know. So if you live/love NYC could you please tell me what is so charming about it?

I grew up there, then moved down south and have been well traveled in between, but it is still home for me. NYC is everything you could imagine and more. the shopping is incredible and inexpensive if you know where to go. The food is priceless any thing you are looking for you will find it there. the people are rude, but can be friendly if approached. The clubs stay open past 2pm. There is ALWAYS something to do in NYC without it costing you a heap of money. It is a melting pot. you must go there once just for a week and see why it is the best city to visit for yourself.

i live in nyc, and i love it! and if you haven't been to nyc, why are you saying its crowded, dirty, mucky and has horrible traffic? well some of what your saying is true even though you really don't know for yourself. its great, so much to do, like ice skating in the winter at Trumps ice rink in central park, times square, a lot to do there. shopping! so much diversity in nyc, and the museums, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, oh and the Museum of Natural History. its truly a wonderful city and i love it! and this city never sleeps, the night life is awesome!

Yes NY is dirty and crowded but there are so many wonderful things about NY. Incredible museums, Broadway shows, shopping, nightlife and the diversity of people. The combination of those things gives NY an energy that is like no other city I've visited. I'm originally from Chicago and never wanted to visit NY but when I came here the first time I knew it would one day be my home. I moved here because there are so many wonderful things, the people are strong, resilient and contrary to popular belief they are friendly. I'm sure you will get many opinions but like anything else, you have to try it and decide for yourself.

It is the energy. And unless you have been here, there is no way to describe it to you. It is something that you can't quite define but is just there.

In my experience people either love or hate New York. There is very little middle ground. So, love it or leave it really does apply here.

Come and see for yourself. If you don't you will always wonder what all the fuss is about.

Of course it may not be for you. I lived in a town in NC for several years and personally just hated it. People couldn't believe it when I left, because they all thought it was truly Gods Country.
To each his own.

As a foreigner (UK) I visited NYC in the 70's and hated it.
I went again last year because I had heard some good reports and had a wonderful time.
It felt safe and friendly. Lots to do and see. Fascinating to walk around and never boring.
It was also low cost (strong pound).
I booked everything on line before I went (transport, tickets, theatre, hotel) and that made everything run smoothly and accessed good deals.
Go and try it - and make sure you have lunch at Katz's Deli!

i think of which you get carry of it actual. Bronx v Queens? The Bronx is the least rich borough and regrettably does not have an excellent kind of things of activity different than the zoo, the stadium, the Botanical backyard and the hall of recognition. maximum New Yorkers do not circulate to any of those venues different tha the stadium aside from the zoo a pair of cases of their lives. Queens has neighborhoods that folk opt to stay in. And eating places of each description. Museums well worth coming to. My decision is Queens over Bronx. If something, i will make a case for Queens over Brtooklyn, yet i think of the order is robust as you wrote it. And, i'm from the Bronx.

Yes it is all those things you mentioned but there are no words to describe how this city compensates you for having to put up with all those things. Don't knock it till you've tried it. It's one of the greatest cities in the world if not the greatest!!!
