If I download Windows XP Home (current version) can it be installed over Windows XP Professional?

I tried installing the XP Home addition 2002 version over the XP Professional that is on this computer and it said what was on the computer was newer (may not be the exact word) then what I wanted to to install.

XP Pro is an upgrade to XP Home. You cannot "downgrade" unless you completely remove the XP Pro and do a reformat/reinstall of the XP Home.

Not over, however you can do a new install. Home to Professional is considered a down-grade and is not supported.
