as someone who has been hospitalised for severe sunburn, i think i can offer a few tips to cope with it. first, take a painkiller every 4-8 hours, aspirin or naproxen are best if can take them and the best topical relief is diaper rash cream (really!).go to the doctor because if it is really that bad, he or she can prescribe a steroid cream that will clear it up in a few days.and if it itches take an antihistamine. drink plenty just in case you are also dehydrated and always put cream on even if you are going out for just a minute while you are healing, better yet - don't go out at all. also my legs healed fine without scarring. i was fanatical about moisturizing.
hope this helps.

I'm Irish and very fair skinned, so I can sympathize. The pain will probably last a week or so. How badly are you burned, is there blistering? That will cause a little more trouble. Unfortunately there is NOTHING you can do about your face being red, so that is one thing you'll just have to live with. It won't scar, but it does damage your skin if you keep getting burned over a period of time. If it's very painful, try getting a cooling gel- there are some with a menthol/lidocaine blend that are great at relieving the pain. It feels best if you store it in the refrigerator before you use it. And there are numbing sprays too. Also, a couple of aspirin might work. And...I'm not lecturing...but next time use a little sunscreen. If you don't normally burn you shouldn't need much, and an SPF 15 would probably do. Sorry you got a bad sunburn! I hope this helped.

Well, most folks will say aloe........ but I'll tell you the real secret. I'm an ethnic blend and I swear by coconut oil (you do need sunscreen sweetie. It protects you from cancer and EVERYONE is vulnerable to that stuff). Pure coconut oil is loaded with vitamin E, much like aloe, but a better delivery and less sticky. (It'll also clear up your wrinkles (that you are now getting from sun damage) and keep you looking 'dewy'). Pain will go away, the red will last a week if it's really bad, no scarring unless you've gone 3rd degree (and you'd know). My mother tanned for 30 years, at 50, she looked 90. We have used pure coconut oil for 10 months, she looks 30! I have no wrinkles, even complexion, and I always look bright and fresh (and I'm 30 and look 18)

every race can burn. I tan a lot so i am not going to tell you any thing about sun screen. The one thing that works the best but smells is Noxzema. ( the zit cream). It takes the heat out. Also not take hot or cold showers or baths. that will make the pain worsen.( Luke warm). If the pain still bothers you go buy a good lotion with Aloe and vitamin V in it. I have found a good one at Bath and Body works. I used it on my bothers back and after 2 days he was really tan. it takes about 2 to 5 days deepening on how bad the burn. But if you start to bluster go to the doctor. Good luck and you will look you with a nice tan.

Sun burn probably will last for about a week or so. I had a friend that had sunburn and it only last a week. It all depends on how badly the burn is and how sensitive your skin is. You will not scar because sunburn just peel your skin off. Just make sure you use cocoa butter lotion to keep the skin moist.

I got a bad sunburn when summer had just started And it only lasted a week. You should put on some of that cream stuff, (I don't know what it is called.) It helps. And no, its not going to scar. Good luck!!

A few days....Maybe longer if its a serious sunburn. I reccomend putting Plamers Coca Butter (Avail at a local drug store for under $5.00)
It shouldn't scar, however your skin may tan as well and have a darker appearance than normal and that can last for a few months.

The severity of the burn determines on how long it lasts. Any one is susceptible to sunburn. Buy some aloe (anywhere you buy suntan lotion) and you will have immediate relief.
