The uncertainty should not affect immigration. But the outcome of the election would. If Calderon, who is a Conservative, wins, he would continue the free-market policies carried out by Fox and remain friendly to the United States. If Obrador, who is a Leftist, wins, he promised to spend billions of dollars fighting poverty.

If a Leftist government is able to fight poverty, then less poor Mexican would cross the border illegally.

Because we are anxious to see what the future president will do to try and improve the country, if anything. We are also looking to see what can be done about cooperation with Mexico, which is currently non existant. Obrador appears to favor a more isolationist policy and that could be good for us. His policy is Mexico First it seems. Calderon is a bit more worldy, but is backed by Bush and Fox, which can't be a good sign. He is just another Harvard educated rich boy who won't give a darn about poor people. Smarter though, and more politically adept.

If the PRD party wins, there will be even less jobs. Investors have already said they will leave if this party wins, Social programs and hand-outs aren't the answer for poverty in Mexico. That is only used to make people more dependent and unwilling to work. PAN party has an economic model very similar to the US, more foreign investment for economic growth and more jobs. Now using a bit of common sense, Illegal immigration will get worse if the PRD party wins.

I don't think it does. Who actually turns out to be President may impact it, depending on how good or bad it gets there, but not the uncertainty. It should be over soon.

I don't see how. Unless he will launch a major campaign to get them back, stop recognizing dual citizenship, protect their side of the border, create a three tierd economy there, close all the consulated up here, dissolve NAFTA, and recognize America as a soveriegn country that they can't pawn off their poor...it's just going to be more of the same thing.

Don't believe the media it has no affect. As long as American business is willing to hire illegal labor and Congress is willing to look the other way they will come.
