Dude, I love my Beetle! I spent over 10 years of my life convincing my parents to give it to me! I am soooo not parting with it for all the money in the world.

Yes it can be done. It used to be about $1,800. It works OK but not great. Plus it takes a lot of power from the engine so unless you live some where very, very hot role down the window and get a small fan to plug into the lighter.

LOL your first responder to your question does not understand how much VW ppl value their cars. It is so much than monetary!!!
I know you can and it is very costly. I saw a thing on Mid Atlantic motor works than is not as expensive that you can hook to the window and it provides some sort of air condition. I can not get my computer to pull up the site. I remember it not being to complicated and around $500 but this was awhile ago...and it kinda looks ugly.
We just sweat it out in our 65 beetle in 110 degrees!! It will be cool soon!

Go to thesamba.com and you'll find alot of post on the topic, as well you can probably find a used orginal unit on there, but chances are it won't work any where as good as a new unit. Your best off rolling down the window and getting used to the heat.

The cost to install it would likely be more than the value of the car.

it might be posible but not recomendable if u like the car roll down your window if not ill buy it i love old beetles!
