I would like to add to some of my peer's advice. Particularly the ones encouraging you that if you have accepted Christ, that you are saved. This is true, and the body is then considered a temple of the holy spirit. Therefore, someone who has accepted Christ should never want to commit suicide. Maybe if you believe that you have accepted Christ, but you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, you or they should re-evaluate your salvation. Perhaps the person who may be contemplating suicide should make sure of these four steps. 1. Accept that you are a sinner. 2. Believe that Christ died on the cross as a sacrifice for all the sins of man. 3. Because Christ died for our sins, we are no longer accountable for any sin past, present, or future, if we accept his free gift of salvation. 4. And finally ask Christ to send his Holy Spirit into your heart. If you do this and you believe it with all of your heart, then you will without a doubt be with Jesus for eternity in heaven. If you do not, then you will spend eternity in Hell. I pray that you have or that you will choose Christ. If you do, then the concept of suicide should be lifted from your heart.

Actually, the Bible and God consider suicide to be paid for at death, i.e., the soul that is sinning, it itself shall die (Ezek. 18:4). And EVERYONE sins. In Romans 6:23 we see that the Bible says "for the wages that sin pays is death. So we again see here that by ending your own life (self murder) when you die, you have paid for your sin.

Do you go to a burning hell for killing yourself? ABSOLUTELY NOT! No one goes to a burning Hell, ever. Even Hitler, the worst person to walk the planet would at some point in eternity have paid for his sins in the future in that kind of place and God is nothing if not JUST. The concept of a burning Hell comes from a Parable or Illustration (a story told in order to get a point across) much like Aesops Fables. Parables and Illustrations are NOT told as actual fact, look up the definition in a dictionary. And in Matthew 13:34, 35. All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds by illustrations. Indeed, without an illustration he would not speak to them that there might be fulfilled what was spoken of through the prophet who said: "I will open my mouth with illustrations, I will puslish things hidden since the founding." So we have his own words that he spoke with Illustrations or examples, such as the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:20,31) Now if the girl and other Lazarus (two examples given of christ raising the dead) were NOT in Heaven, where were they???? Why do I say they were not in Heaven? Because the Bible says in Colossians 1:18 "and he (Jesus) is the head of the body, the congregation. He is the beginning, THE FIRST-BORN FROM THE DEAD, that he might become the one who is first in all things;" so what does this mean since Christ didn't die until AFTER he resurrected the 2 other people? It means they were dead, but in the grave, not in Heaven. Thats all. Jesus was the first to be raised from the dead and ascend to Heaven. So mankind rests in the grave while Christ was rewarded for his life. There's a reason Jesus told the Thief that he would be in Paradise and not Heaven. Because one day soon, Earth will be a paradise again.

Also, God would never punish a mentally disturbed person for something which was beyond their control (which anyone that would do that qualifies as - because self preservation is a built in system thats automatic) and God above all beings would show the fruits of the spirit; long suffering, kindness, patience, everything we enjoyed in our grandparents : )

Good luck on your question.

If I remember right 5 diffrent people committed suicide in the Bible, including Judas.

Many religion says suicide will keep you out of heaven, but the Bible sites only one unforgivable sin, rejecting Christ by blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, not suicide.

On the other hand, if you are a Christian and believe the bible, the Bible also says to honour the temple of God, wich some believe to be the body, as the Holy Spirit dwells in a Christian, so if you commit suicide, you destroy the temple, hence blasphemy of the holy spirit also.

Its very complicated, and is all in translation, there is NO specific verse that says suicide is wrong, or that its not.

In I Chronicles we read that Saul fell on his sword because, as he told his armor bearer, he didn't want the Philistines to boast about killing him. However, we are also told that it is because he consulted a fortune teller instead of God before going into battle.

Jesus says, "Greater love has no man than he lay down his life for another." That act of self sacrifice may be one form of suicide. There are some whose bodies are racked with pain and don't wish to be a burden to their families, financially or emotionally. For them this verse is important.

Suicide is a public issue debated in this day because of cancer, AIDS, and a host of other ailments. Intense suffering was under discussion in the book of Job, but God ultimately does not answer that question by giving a reason for Job's suffering but reminds him that human perspective is limited.

The former Hemlock Society (whose name is now "Compassion and Choices") may provide some further information.

God didn't send his son into the world to condemn, but to save! (John 3:17) His whole focus is on saving you - on giving you what he calls abundant life, both now and in the future.

Here's another one: God says, I know the plans I have for you - plans to prosper you and not to harm you - plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer. 29:11)

He invented life. Death was never a part of the plan.

I asked too(and I'm ordained) because I was concerned about people bringing up a friend of mine who did it, and said he's in hell. I personally believe, that God makes allowances for people who cant be "responcible" for what they do(like children and the mentally ill). I can't imagine God sending someone to hell when they are sick to the point of death:(

"thou shall not kill" and "love your neighbor as you love yourself"
and the most important commandment is love thy Lord God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your strength" If someone commits suicide they're unable to follow these comands.
