To make a long story short, my mother criticized what I was wearing on the 4th of July. I had on a t-shirt, denim shorts and athletic shoes. I had to work that morning, rush home and shower, make lunch for my kids and get the house cleaned in time before relatives started showing up for the BBQ & fireworks. My clothes did not have holes in them and I worked hard that day! What was wrong with wearing shorts and a t-shirt? It was 90 degrees F. Her exact words were, "I hope you're not going to wear THAT out in public."

Some parents just have to find fault with people, including their kids, all the time, no matter what. Mine are like that ... and I am a 48 year old grandmother myself!!

You could confront her with it, tell her you don't appreciate it, and ask why she feels it's her business, or "right" to criticize you.

I would recommend telling her that you don't criticize her, therefore you expect her to treat you with the same respect ... and that if she refuses to do so, then she will be seeing less of you/hearing from you less until she chooses to be more positive and respectful in interactions with you.

Blessings!
