Fairly frequently I get a nagging pain in my right calf, it feels like the early stages of cramp, but it never progressed to full blown cramp, it just stays the same and remains there for hours at a time. It tends to occur mainly in the evenings, not triggered by anything in particular. Eventually, I get to sleep and in the morning it's gone.
I did tear the muscle once, but that was 6 years ago and it seemed to heal fine.
It's really annoying because nothing I do seems to get rid of the pain. Painkillers don't help.
Any ideas what it could be or how to get rid of it? I'm 24, I'm in good health otherwise, I don't smoke.......it's not triggered by walking or anything like that.

If it has been bothering you for some time, I would have it checked out by your doctor. It could be any number of things.
I use to run cross country, and injured my knee doing so. Ever since then, my knee aches before it rains... from the moisture in the air. It is always at night also, and is fine by morning. Try a heating pad when you go to bed.
The pain in your leg is probably nothing major, but it is still good to have at checked out.... better safe than sorry. Not to scare you, but I have a friend who ignored a pain in her leg for over a year. When she finally went to the doctors to have it looked at, it turned out to be cancer! She was only 26 when this happened.
Even if its not serious, your doctor may have some good advice. Also, cramping & sore muscles can be caused by low potassium levels. Maybe a dietician can help or try your local health food store.... and eat lots of bananas!!! ;)

Thrombophlebitis is an inflammation of a vein, often accompanied by the formation of a clot. What' s most interesting is that you said you had a previous injury, this is why I am referring to this particular one. It occurs most commonly as the result to trauma to the vessel wall. Deep vein thrombosis called DVT. is characterized by aching or cramping pain. especially in the calf. Do you have other symptoms, like it's warm to touch, or the limb is pale, cold and swollen? No matter, you must see a doctor. Whatever you do. DO NOT RUB THE AREA PLEASE...this can cause a clot to move and it usually move toward the heart or lungs. I am really concerned about this. You may not have it. Hope you don't, but if you do. treatment is simple. I hope more than anything that I am wrong. You can't go wrong by speaking with your doctor. I will pray for you. Good luck

Another thing it could be is a blocked or narrowed artery. I was getting cramp in my calf and took no notice. I could nearly always think of something that might have caused. It got worse and last month I had an angioplasty for a blocked artery. Get it checked out to rule out any thing that might be more serious.

it is a well known fact that if you suffer an injury at anytime in your life, it will always be weak and flare up from time to time.Try raising your leg slightly so the blood flows out easier as if you are stood up all day, the blood finds it harder, to go back to the heart and it is the white blood cells which repair damaged tissue ,so the more blood that goes to the affected area the sooner it might heal itself .you could also try propping up your leg on a couple of pillows when you go to sleep.

It could be from wearing high heels, during the day for too long. I would need to ask you loads of questions about the hows and why's but a good tip would be to keep a diary on such things as well as diet. then after three weeks review it !

not trying to scare you.
could be as serious as a blood clot, or electrolyte imbalance. Or could simply be a flare-up of your old injury. See your doctor. DONT GO TO Emergency Room!! it's a waste of resources, as long as you can still breathe and your heart is still beating, it is not a life threatening emergency, see your doctor.

Please see the webpages for more details on Sciatica. The underlying cause of the calf pain has to be found out. Consult your doctor.
