Start out by putting things into categories. Clothes, magazines, books, jewelry, etc. Each item has an area. The next step is to throw away the things you don't need. Be strict with yourself. Do you really need all 50 magazines? After that, put the remaining things into their proper places. Clothes in drawers, books on shelves, etc. Re-evaluate your organizing system if it isn't working. For example, if you read books in one area, put the bookshelf there. Keep things up 30 minutes daily, and that's it.

Start with one thing. I usually start with putting all my clothes away, then throw out all the papers I've been leaving around and don't need anymore, put all my books away.
Just do it one thing at a time.
WARNING!!! it will get messier before it gets clean!!!
I don't know why, but my room always looks a lot worse while I'm cleaning it then it did when I first started. It will get clean though. It just takes time.

do it by type of item - for instance, pick up all the clothes first, then the books, music, etc. start with something easy. maybe try making separate piles and then put each one away. throw out anything broken or that you don't really use any more. then some up with a system for organization so it will be easier on you next time.

I face exactly the same problem . . .
The answer is very simple:
Invite someone you care a lot for, preferably a person of the opposite sex ´(depending on your taste of course) to watch a movie or drink a cup of coffee . . .
then put some music and everything will be done automatically . ..
you wont even notice . . .how fast you can do it

The way to do it is to start in one corner, and work you way toward the door. It might take you a couple of day, but that is OK too. Don't leave anything out! Pick up, dust, vacuum etc... Take before and after pics to remind yourself to keep it clean!

first get a big bag and put all the garbage in it. then you take the hamper or what ever you pu you dirty laundry in and place all the cloths that need to be cleaned in there. take what ever is on the bed and place it on the floor and make your bed. what ever is left you can figure out what to do with it. then in the end you vacuum and dust.

start in one spot and work your way till you can walk through continue till you are finished. and if you keep your room in better order you won.t be taking so long at cleaning it next time.
