Think about it this way. Would you blame them if they never cared about you, and you turned into a druggie at the age of 15?

Because they love us to death and do not want anything to happen to us; not even asm uch as a fly to brush against us. Also because they made have made their own mistakes in the past and are trying everything to not allow us in the same trap. And not to mention the level of violence in our society today; people have become very wicked (kidnapping, killing, raping, and so on). There is a lot they have to prtoect us from.
When you have your own kids you will know exactly how parents feel. They are doing it in our best interest. Of course we don't understand that especially when we as kids have our minds on something; but we end up understanding in the long run. I'm not saying that overprotectiveness is fine, sometimes it is really not necessary and other times it is. My dear just try to understand, you will grow up and be on your own in due time, then you won't need overprotcetive parents...lol...
Just have some patients.

Imagine watching a story about a 13 year old girl that goes over to a friend's house in a neighborhood that "everyone knows everyone", and that is the last you see of her until you are identifying her body at the morgue.
Are you kidding? We are seeing stories like this daily about kids that are taken, sexually abused, murdered, and you want to know why parents are so over protective of their kids? Because you feel like if you aren't there, you can't do all that you can to protect them from harm. What a scary feeling to wonder if your child walking out the front door is the last visual you will have of your kid alive.
Kids like to think it's because your parents don't trust you. In actuality, it's because your parents don't trust the others in the world.
When you're a parent, you will understand.

How protective is "over" protective?
It is my legal, ethical, and moral responsibility to protect my minor age children and help them learn to make good choices. I have to be protective without being "over"-protective.
I freely admit that I sometimes don't know where the line should be. I sometimes choose to err on the over-protective side, because that seems safest and most responsible.
It isn't long once a child is old enough to go "to the movies or to a party or to a school dance" that they are no longer minors and have to make most or all of their own decisions and protect themselves. You will be there soon. Be gratefull that you have some help now, even though it seems a pain and an annoyance. Thank your parents for trying to help even if they, like me, don't always know where the "over" line is. They are trying ot help not hurt.

Because most parents have the best intentions for their children and don't want anything horrible to happen to them. Sometimes, parents are so freaked out by the terrible stuff that happens to kids everyday, so they are overprotective because they'd be devasted if something happened.

oh there is lots of answers to this question.. but mine would have to be
ONE- they did some pretty good (bad) stuff when they grew up and you have grown up being thier little prodigy and it's scares the crud out of them that you might turn out how they did.. so they become overprotected to make sure you don't go down the path they did..
TWO- they have friends co-workers who have told stories to them about what thier daughter did the other night.. who their son got caught with smoking that.. and it's makes them think that if they nip it in the bud now then it won't happen later..
or they just love you to death and want the best and safest life for you possible..

Because we know what the dangers are and we know about the kind of Stuff we did when we were in school. and we love our children and don't want to see them get hurt. or to make any stupid mistakes, like drink and drive at a party, or get kidnapped and killed at the movies. we are just paranoid, and when you are a parent you will understand also.

when you get older and read some of the questions Kids aask on the thing...you will understand why parents are sooo protective. The truth is school nowadays...if ever...DOES not prepare you for real life...like kid nappers, Rapists, Thieves, wreckless drivers, ect...Just view it as supervision by someone who cares. One day you will learn that some parents could give a rats behind what their kid is up to...they just can't wait til they are out of their home..even if it's in Jail...or dead.

You will understand when you have kids. There are dangerous people out there and many temptations for young people. Parents don't want anything to happen to their kids. If your parents are concerned about you, be very glad because that means you have good parents. Some parents don't care about their kids at all.

First of all, you're obviously not a parent. I wouldn't worry about a school dance much myself, but child molesters are everywhere - like the local swimming pools, parks, etc. And believe me, if something like that happened to your, you would never forgive yourself.

because parents know what the real world is like, and what people are like and you do not. Although you think you do.
You cant understand or appreciate what this world is like until you're an adult and been jaded like the rest of us.
Be glad your parents care. You might just turn out okay because of it, unlike so many children.
