you just be you, anything else is fake and impossible to maintain, you don't want to start out playing games, be yourself and you will either be compatible or you won't. the still in love with your ex thing worries me though, if this goes well make sure you don't get any further in to it until you resolve that because if you do you'll just hurt this girl and she doesn't deserve that. respect, kindness, interest in what she is really saying are all good things to give someone. a person likes another person based on how being with that person makes them feel about themselves, sounds complicated but its really quite simple.

If you are looking forward to going out on this date then that is a good start. You should dress up but not too much...look nice. Maybe jeans and a button up with some cologne, but not too much. Act like yourself... don't put up a front. I would want a new guy to be able to carry a good conversation, especially when we first meet- b/c if you can't hold at least a decent conversation you are wasting yours and her time. Take her to a nice place...doesn't have to be OMG nice- just chill. Since you can make ppl laugh then you better make her laugh, but don't act like a clown. If you are still in love with your ex you better forget about her on the date. Keep it cool. If she ends up thinking you are weird then oh well. There are plenty of girls that would more than likely consider going out with you anyway. Especially b/c you show that you at least care about the date. Good luck and have fun.

Avoid extensive talk about politics, religon, and your ex's. These are hot topics that are totally unnessary for the first 10 dates. After that, then venture deeper. Dress casual, and don't over pour on the colonge, she might think you opted out of a shower!
Ask her about her, like how many brothers and sisters she has, or about her job. Offer answers to the question after she has answered, it reciprocates the conversation. Remember, she's probably as nervous about impressing you too. Make her feel at ease. If things are going down hill, have somone buzz you on your phone and look at the number in front of her and say "Oh no, it's mom, she's been kinda sick lately, I told her to call me if she needed something" I use that one ALL the time. Saves face and your evening!

If she's outgoing then she'll love the fact that you can make her and other ppl laugh and even if a guy is kind of nerdy its attractive because it's who he is even if its something like- he likes star wars WAY too much- its cute and not like evryone else who tries to be Mr. Cool....and dress comfortable and casual just to hang out....don't make it seem like your trying to impress her or anything because then it's too easy for her to think that you're already interested...

be yourself. The only way you're gonna blow it is if you act like something you don't know. You know yourself perfectly well so go with that.

Just relax and be yourself. Be confident. Don't try and be too nice and polite... it looks fake. Just act like she is one of your old friends.
