Has anyone ever attempted to search for a missing family member? Particularly a parent or sibling? If so, what steps did you go about tracking them? Did you find them? What were the biggest issues you had to deal with? What were the biggest emotional issues you had to deal with?

If not, what convinced you not to do so? Do you regret not doing it or are you satisfied with your decision?

These are all great help, but unfortunately I don't have any more info other than a name and the city he used to live in. It also happens to be a very common name, so it's almost impossible. I don't have a birthdate nor a social, not even a middle name. Has anyone ever found someone in this same type of situation?

I used what little info my family had about my mom and looked up in phone book those with her name. I called the license burerau but i findly used the social security office and wrote a letter to her and a letter to social security explaining why i needed to find her. They mailed it to her last know address and work. It took several letters and they don't gauntee it either. go to the social security site and look up address for it and rules.or call the 800 number in book. check out phone dictories also i found my husbands mom there.
I was thrilled and so was my mom to talk after 16 years. I was scared so was she. after 10 years someone paid her way to my state and we meet. I am 28 and just met her. It was happy reunion and I wish she could have stayed. It was painful to send her back. My husband has meet his mom once since 5. his dad made her leave both times. His dad doesn't like him talking to him and blames me for helpping him find her. He loves his mom and wishes to meet her again. he now happy.

My brother went missing when he was 18. We had absolutely no idea what happened to him. The three months he was missing were the most terrible months. I cried every single day. I found him by going straight to his best friend's house, who finally broke his promise to my brother not to say anything after I broke down and cried. My brother knew that I would do anything to help him whenever he was in trouble,....I was very happy that I didn't just sit around and cry forever. Unfortunately 5 years later he committed suicide. He didn't give me a chance to help, because he knew I would do anything possible to help.
Good luck to you in finding whoever is missing. As long as you know they are still alive...or you don't have proof of their passing...don't give up looking. It's such a terrible feeling not knowing where a loved one is.
