Mastiff. tho the Fila Brasilero is more thin and a runner. The English Bull Mastiff is a magnificent, beautiful, large breed dog. If you are looking into a dog, I recommend this breed. They are good protectors, and excellent with kids. And they are loyal. There aren't the same attacking problems you have with dobermans and the like for gaurd dogs. They don't bite automatic. You have to train that. And they love you unconditionally.

The largest breed ever is the Wolfhound. I like great danes, they are great dogs, Wolf Hound, Great Danes, then I think the Berness Mountain dog, and then the Lab, or something like that, I don't know. I know wolfhounds are the biggiest though.

It may be the other answer is correct, the Irish one but I thought there was a Russian dog quite skinny and very tall. The name escapes me. Oddly enough I saw this giant dog the other day and the owner was explaining to other people what it was. I did not want to be rude so I walked by (quickly) he looked as tall as a large pony.

I went to this site the other day, Christy's dog portal and it lists all different types of dog breeds and gives descriptions/classifications. This is a really helpful site in answering any question you may have regarding dog breeds.

Mastiff..Awesome dog (a male can exceed 200 pounds). My brother used to breed them to get a college fund for his kids, it worked. They can sell for 700.00 each if purebred. They need a lot of room !
